A nice turn out. 3,500 maybe. It was bigger than the crowd that greeted them after the 1st weekend of play and Coach Marshall noted that. Considering all the great Shocker fans that were able to make the trek to Atlanta I thought the turnout was pretty impressive. Good energy in the building.
Before they brought the team out the Pep Band came in and set up shop and they were great.
I actually had an extra special time at the Arena today. I was sitting in Section 112 about 20 rows up when an elderly gentlemen asked if the seat next to me on the end of the row was available. I immediately recognized that I had the honor to sit next to Shocker Hall of Famer and father of our AD, Linwood Sexton. What an honor that was to chat with Linwood. A real gentleman and very interesting to talk to.
One very interesting thing he told me was back in his playing day they traveled almost exclusively by train. Even from Wichita to Lawrence.
He also told me that they built Veterans Stadium while he was in school. He had a summer job carting wheelbarrow loads of concrete during the construction of the Stadium. So he helped build the stadium that he played in.
One of the greatest Shockers ever. His son is the Athletic Director. Did he expect any special treatment? No, he just wanders into the arena like another Joe and ask if he can sit next to a nobody like me in the cheap seats. So humble. So unassuming. So real. Wow!

Considering 4k or so of us fans are still in ATL or making our way back it looks like the turnout was damn good from what I can tell. Glad they will have another celebration for us fans who missed it due to traveling! Way to support the team everyone! Gotta love shocker nation!"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
