17 years. Its been 17 years since I bought my first season ticket. In the beginning, I would sit in the student section along with two of my very good friends. We were 3 of about 30 students in the entire student section. In the beginning, the 3 of us would drive to St Louis as a 9 seed in the play-in game along with about 50 other Shocker fans and we would stubbornly believe we could win the whole tourney. In the beginning, we would drive back to Wichita dejected, and we would dream of days of Shocker greatness. In the beginning we dreamed of relevance, not national relevance mind you, but relevance in our own conference. In the beginning, the thoughts of conference championships, NITs, NCAA tourneys, and Final 4s were a pipe dream. Prominence seemed so very far away then....and it was.
It seems so long ago now. The 3 of us, like many others on this board, have stuck with it. Through thick and thin. We bleed black and gold. We live and die with each new season, each game, each possession. Through a lot of tough times, pain, heartbreaking losses, and trials and tribulations - we're still here. I think back on the old days and how far where we've come since then. Its been a long, winding road. But the journey has made where we are now all the sweeter.
Happy Easter to ShockerNation and to all of you on Shockernet. Enjoy the ride friends. Soak it in and let it fill your soul.
