  • NEW TRADITION AT KOCH. PLEASE READ

If you were in the stands at Staples, or on your couches jumping up and down, you heard something

With 1:00 to go the band started the WAR CHANT with no instruments. Lynn Marshall LOVED it and pumped up the fans screaming the chant. HCGM Went on later to say it was amazing.

STARTING NEXT SEASON if the game is in the books ALL of KOCH needs to be SCREAMING to the other teams.

Just a heads up. By the way, If anyone wants a Play Angry shirt with the shocker font on it I know where to get them.

    Shockers up!

This isn't new. Been happening all year. With this run I am hoping it will catch on more for next year

They did it this year also. Even put the words up on the video board. Didn't catch on. But with the exposure in the tourney and the chant, as well as doing the chant during the sweet 16 celebration, it should do better next year. But this chant the band has done all year.

Not at the end of the game without instruments. It sounded great last night!

Not without instruments, I will give you that. But yes at the end of games. Hope it catches on. I always chanted along all year trying to get those around me to join. Most didn't

I felt like it was catching on quite a lot at Koch as the year progressed. At least in our section it was being sang loud and proud. Then, in the NCAA it has continually Gotten better and the game against Gonzaga it reached new levels and then the version without the band during on-court action against La Salle was awesome. Great work fans!

Please one thing I hate about KU is the rock chalk, its like they are taunting their the teams they are playing. I find it classless. Not saying what we are doing is the same but lets win and lose with class.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

I don't see anything wrong with either one. If the opposing team doesn't like it -- don't lose.

Just had an idea of how to start it. It would take work, and hopefully I can convey it here in words only.

It would start with clapping at the basic tempo of the song. Then it starts as a spoken chant, slowly adding words (like the "I - I BELIEVE" chant), then breaks into song. So...

                        You (clap, clap, clap)
                        You don't (clap, clap, clap)
You don't wanna (clap, clap) (after this it is sung as normal)
You don't wanna go to war...

You could go a little longer with the added words part, but this one feels right. Plus it wouldn't take a whole lot for the student section to start it, and it gives 10-15 seconds to catch on before the singing starts. Thoughts?

I don't think it is taunting to have a victory chant. Key rattling, "warm up the bus" and "na na na na goodbye" are much closer to taunting then Rock Chalk Jayhawk or the War chant imho.

Very nice. You won't need the clapping and I think you only have to go You -pause- You Don't -pause- and then bust out the song. After a few times everyone will know immediately what's going on.
