  • Bonuses for Kansas coaches

Here is an article about what kind of bonuses the coaches in Kansas get for reaching certain milestones.

Here are the paragraphs that pertain to Coach Marshall.

Marshall stood to receive $18,000 for winning the conference regular-season title, and another $18,000 for winning the conference tournament title. More reasons he may not be too fond of Creighton, which beat his team for both titles.

He will get a $36,000 bonus for each game WSU plays in the NCAA Tournament. (An NIT appearance would earn him a flat $18,000 bonus.)

For being voted MVC coach of the year, Marshall earned a $25,000 bonus. He would get a $50,000 bonus if he is named national coach of the year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and/or the Associated Press.

If WSU reaches the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, Marshall would get another $60,000. A Final Four spot would get him another $100,000, and an NCAA title another $200,000.

Marshall also gets scheduling and academic bonuses.

Wow. I thought I'd read here on ShockerNet that HC3G 's base was around 1.6 Million smackers. Guess the reports were wrong.
"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

That 900K contract was signed a several years ago IIRC. It included a retention bonus (100k I think) for every year he was here afterward.

As was pointed out, base salary is base salary. It's not what he's being paid. His pay this year IS around 1.6 million.

Yes, $900,000 is just his base. Above is a link to USA Today's database on CBB coaches salaries. While not the foremost authoritative source, it is considered pretty accurate. Marshall is the highest paid non-BCS coach for a team not named Memphis, with a total salary package close to $1.5 million. Add the annual $100k raise, and you get this year's $1.6 million. In 2017 Marshall will be making $2 million.

That's the pay for the 68 coaches that made the Dance last year. On top of that, there's got to be more to a few of those guys annual salary than what's being shown.

No sh*t! "Base salary is base salary." Imagine that. Thanks for the tip.

Now let me reiterate; I THOUGHT, I'd read here on ShockerNet that HC3G's base was around $1,600,000.00. Meaning, with bonuses, insurance, pension, cars, and all other perks, his total compensation package as Head Coach of The Wichita State University Men's Basketball Program was far in excess of his base salary of $1,600,000.00. But, I apparently am mistaken. I did NOT read that here on ShockerNet. Therefore, the reports where NOT wrong. I was. And for that, I apologize.
