I don't see Creighton as usually being in the Top three of the conference. They will be in the middle to the bottom. Marquette is a midwest school who often recruits really good Juco kids that help them to be good. I don't see Creighton as being a destination for these kids.

I think this will be very interesting to watch over the next 10 years. In the short term economic view this is the right decision for CU. However, the risk is that 7 years from now when the TV contract is renewed, what is the view of the conference and will they be able to maintain the TV income? If Georgetown is the premier school will they hold the rest of the conference hostage money wise ala Texas? If they are not able to maintain being at the top of the conference, would a lose in attendance revenue offset all the financial benefits of what they get from the conference, especially when considering the increased travel costs across the board? Look at West Virginia already whining after 1 year in the Big XII and that conference is dealing with a lot more money than the new Big East. The thing is the athletic department now gets to increase their budget. It makes them look bigger and better, but it'll be interesting if they can handle the differences in the expense column.

creighton will do just fine in that conference (as would wichita state in a larger conference.. as long as marshall remained coach).
i'm reminded of when creighton beat indiana state and larry bird in the 1978 mvc tournament to make the ncaa's.
i'm also reminded of when creighton beat wichita state and antoine carr/cliff levingston in the 1981 mvc tournament- in wichita- to make the ncaa's (kevin mckenna, future la laker, late of indiana state as head coach, was their star then).
they may not have a history of going deep into the ncaa's.. but that school goes way back for basketball success. it didn't just start with altman.

I think the new BigE could on occasion be #2, but more often than not they will be somewhere from 3 thru 5 with the B12 and the SEC. The ACC easily becomes #1. The B1G should hang in at the 2, 3 or 4 range. The MWC and the PAC should be in about the 5 or 6 range, although I'm not sure the MWC can sustain what they've accomplished the last few seasons unless they add a program like Gonzaga. The old BigE will be nothing more than the old CUSA after UConn and Cincy leave. And the MVC?
I also think the BigE name and the extra $3-4 mill in revenue per season will gain the Cretin's access to a little higher rated level of recruit."Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

C) CU will not suddenly get 5 stars. There are 25 of those a year. They will get a few more 4 stars from time to time. My guess is they will have a boost in the 250-100 range. It's not like they suddenly leap frogged other teams that recruit theses kids in status.

They'll be fine. May not win a lot of conference titles, but they'll be competitive and be in the running to dance just about every year.
Bad mouthing CU for going to the BE and wanting to do the same thing with us to the MWC doesn't make any sense to me. Yes, both would/will be a step up in competition, but both have a lot to offer from a basketball perspective and have resources. And the BE is already bringing their own bottom feeders into the conference. Same thing with the MWC if we were to be fortunate enough to head that direction.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

I hate sCUm so view all comments through that lens
* I really really hope this falls through like Missouri to the Big 10. Not because I care if CU stays or goes but because those sweet delicious tears.
* We need to stop saying they are going to the Big East. They are going to the new league that purchased the Big East name. The two teams playing for the Big East title right now are gone next year.
* Schools that have already made these long distance conference moves are ALREADY feeling the squeeze and they had stupid football money. The TV contract for this new Big East is laughable. The share of the basketball contract is not going to be enough to fly their other teams everywhere.
* This idea that all of the sudden recruits are going to say "Oh ... Omaha! I've never heard of that before. But they are in the Big East so I want to go there!!!" is laughable. CU is going to get the exact same players that they were going to get in the MVC. No kid in NYC is going "Well, I was going to play for St. John's but that Creighton team looks interesting with their low power offense."
* CU will do fine if golden boy is there next year but after that there is no way they are going to be looked at as an equal in this new big east. There is a reason they are an also invite...
The answer to so many of these predictions won't be made available for years. In the internet era / ESPN 24/7 coverage era / I want it now era that will be hard to take. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong and CU rides off in the Big East sunset. But if I'm right, lol. lololol. lol.

Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
