If by 'intimate' you mean 'sees the difference between your obsessive fact twisting and actual fact', then intimate it is.

Regardless of your response, no 'BJ' fan (yes, I'll placate you) expects anything other than tough sledding. What we relish going forward is the same thing all Shocker fans want: the opportunity. The opportunity to get out and compete with the best. That's what we're so stoked about, and genuinely I hope you find it too, either in the MWC or a new conference made up of the best of the A-10 and other conferences, because I don't hate your program. I said before, I would like to see our series continue on a head-to-head basis, or a game in KC every year. If it means there's ups and downs instead of a decade plus of strong finishes, then so be it.

I do find your overarching fixation with us to be puzzling. If you want to spin it that it's all downhill for us from here, knock yourself out. You're an internet savant and they're just words.

At least we can both agree, come next year you'll need some new material. Unless of course you'll fill air time on MVCFans with updates about Doug's bench time in the Association next year.

    • Doughy (sic intentionally) isn't going anywhere. His family doesn't need the money, they're very "family" oriented, and he doesn't work hard enough on D to run the risk of a career ending injury. He will help CU try and make a splash in their new league.

Firstly, you won't be competing with the "best". Whatever amalgamation the new Catholic league ends up as, you won't be the ACC - far from it.

Any "fixation" I have with an MVC school is limited by whatever entertainment I can derive from that school. You see, I have little respect for any program in the MVC. Club BJ gets the greatest portion of my allotted MVC respect but that still isn't saying much. Imagine if Omaha hadn't built the arena, of which you call "home" a few nights a week between monster truck pulls and Taylor Swift concerts? You would still be playing in that hellhole of a gym in front of a few thousand fans like the rest of the Valley. While the rental of a facility pales in comparison to actually owning your own world class college basketball arena, it isn't a bad second choice considering the financial circumstances your school was in when they made the move.

And for somebody who would take the time and energy to post on our forum, you are hardly a "random BJ fan". You are one of those dedicated souls that used to make the risky trip out to the forum avoiding potholes and gunshots. A true random BJ fan has a closet full of Husker gear and doesn't even know where to find this forum.

Good luck in all your endeavors!

              • The problem for Creighton may be when they spread out their fan base. Having to travel to all east points of the U.S. and then spend money to go to New York every year for the tourney will be fun for a little while. Then reality will set in and smaller and smaller numbers will be able to afford to attend. We'll see what that does to their fan base. I predict that West Virginia will not be a part of the Big 12 for more than a few years because of the same problems.

I think that is a great idea. I would love to see an annual Creighton vs. Wichita State game played in Kansas City every year.

Kansas City is almost exactly half way between Omaha and Wichita. It would be a fun short road trip for both teams fans.

Not only did we NOT make up that nine point gap using your strategy, we made it up with mine.

We got a stop and scored. We got a stop and scored. We did that over and over again. I understand your original point, but I don't understand what you're talking about here. We were not fouling to make up the gap, nor were we extending possessions. We were defending, preventing them from scoring, and making quick baskets.

We ended the game the same way we got back into it, with two key differences that decided the game: this time Creighton scored, and we didn't. That was the only difference. If Creighton had not scored and we had, we would have won, and we would have done so by using the exact same method that got us back into the game. You are the one arguing we should have changed what worked to begin fouling.

WSU did throw a few traps in to keep CU off balanced, but I will concede that the stops came from "straight up man to man defense."

The final 43 seconds are still a different situation. You cannot give up a three if you are WSU. CU can absolutely spread the court; therefore, it is difficult to actually help on the dribble drive. Also, there is very little time for WSU to score. More importantly, Marshall couldn't get his best line-up in the game to get a score (he wanted to catch the BJ’s in transition defense – I concur), and it is easy for CU to defend three point shots when they know that is the only option (On all other WSU possessions the lane had to be defended and WSU was able to run motion or plays for the duration of a shot clock).

IMO, the perfect moves would be:

                      • Call a time-out immediately following MA’s three pointer
                      • Sub in the best defensive unit that has fouls to give (we probably had the right guys on the court)
                      • Attempt to force a five second count or steal the in-bounds play
                      • Trap hard immediately with the intent of fouling
                      • Sub the best offensive line-up in when free throws are being made
                      • At this point, there would be 40+ seconds to make up a one possession game
o WSU may be down one, two, or three
o Depending upon the score you can try to get the best shot you can early or run the clock for a “safe” play
o Going quickly may add 2-3 more possessions

There are more opportunities and “outs” to win the game if you have time on the clock. It was never going to be more than one possession game and I would like more than a fading-away, off-balanced, double-clutch three with the clock expiring.

Background: I became convinced about the impact of extending games after watching what Texas Tech did in the round house a few years ago. Tech missed multiple shots, yet still managed to score 17 points in 62 seconds. WSU was up 8 when this started, never turned the ball over, made every free throw and won by ONLY 2. The scoring upside of extending a game is very high. Heck, this year’s team showed what is possible with 35 seconds during the comeback at ISU.

Finally, the stats show that teams rarely get a required three when starting a possession with less than 12 seconds left.

                      From KenPom.com (http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/entry/yet_another_study_about_fouling_when_up_3):
In the 814 cases studied, teams made 98 out of 608 three-point shots (16.1%) during the possession in question. Basically, assume a player is about half as effective as normal in hitting threes when his team is down three facing a limited clock. He might even be worse since it’s possible these shots were skewed towards more effective shooters.

But the stats might be skewed the other way because how many of these also include the half court and beyond 3pt attempts.

It was a shot at WSU & Gregg Marshall. Either say what you mean or mean what you say.

and yes @shoxlax: by and large thats probably what he meant but we'll never know because I am sure he'll make up some story again about how he just meant "Ron Baker is an excellent basketball player" and will allow this to be swept under the rug..
I question this? Brando and coach Marshall are good friends; Marshall has been on 'Tim Brando Show' several times and even sent him a WSU flag. Yes, he did place his foot in his mouth and then tried to back-peddle, however I'm not sure it was meant as a slam on us... just a 'brain fart' on Brando's part.

With all due respect I am sure they are great friends.. But he said what he said and when he tried to "clarify" it made him look even more retarded than making the initial statement.

How many ways can you take "He's the only player who can play for the opposing team" Especially with about 60-70% of the comments are usually gushing about said opposing team?

He did say quite a few things regarding our players and program. So I dont want to make it seem like Brando was on the attack towards Wichita State.

I saw that live when it happened and darn near rewinded it to show the family. But I figured ... naaaaaaaah that didn't really happen.
