  • The Creighton game here in Wichita was fun and loud. As usual in that game, we out-rebounded the blue-birds and contained Doug to a mild roar. I guess Doug was not good enough to be recruited at Iowa State, but good enough for 'National Player Of The Year' consideration this Season? Wow, I need to ponder that 'conflagration introspection' around in my lil pea brain for clarity sake? Ooops, when it comes 'out of the wash' it is still just a clamoring sensation. Makes no sense. Yesterday, Doug had a banner game and it did not matter who was guarding him. If he was smothered, he passed to their other good "horse" shooters for wide open 3's. Creighton also had some nice pick and roll plays yesterday as well. This was by far their best game of the Season. We must see to it that it will be their only Superbowl this year.

In retrospect, Creighton returned almost everybody from last Season and was not missing 5 key scorers from last Season's squad as were our Shocks this Season. They did not have 3 starters missing for 7 games and 2 Starters missing in Valley Play. The Jays did not get a hosing with an incorrect goal-tending call to decide a loss by a whistle. Sounds like excuses? Naaa.

My point is this. They can thank their lucky stars that they did not get uprooted again this Season by our Shocks. They returned almost everybody, they had very few injuries to contend with, and it still came down to the last game of the Valley Season for them to finally win an outright Conference Championship. (2001 was the last outright Championship for them?) Where Creighton has been tough is at the Lew. We would long to give them a 'farewell loss' to remember us by, just in case they bail out of the MVC. It's the very least we could do to keep them humble. As the song says "2 out of 3 wins ain't bad baybay."
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

You are well behaved here, and don't come here to start trouble, I just don't think that it really matters how many outright titles Creighton has had prior to this one. That said, I will jump from the pan into the fire, maybe piss off a bunch of Shocker fans and start a huge war, but everyone keep in mind, the following is only to demonstrate my opinion on trivial matters. The following, in my opinion, is trivial and probably shouldn't be brought up by people outside of the Wichita State community on a Wichita State board. Deep breathe, okay, here goes: IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT WICHITA STATE, MOREOVER, MARSHALL IS 4-2 AGAINST MCDERMOTT. In reality, it is a meaningless stat if you look at the bigger picture. Marshall swept McDermott in McDermott's first year, a year in which McDermott had to clean up the P'Allen mess and the disarray left over by Altman. The last two years they have played even. There, I potentially started a fire on this board using a somewhat irrelevant and trivial statistic. In my opinion, the championship discussion and the newly inserted coaches head to head records are trivial and don't matter much. With that, an opposing fan probably shouldn't debate them on the other team's board.

On the other hand, how fans and people behave, does matter. I don't want to be associated as a blood thirsty thug, lusting over injuries to college athletes. I was there, the behavior implied, implicates me and is far from accurate. Furthermore, every Shocker fan I encountered yesterday was treated quite nicely and moreover, they were very polite as well. Having a Wichita State fan that is upset over the outcome, posting something inaccurate about fan behavior can impact future fan behavior. It can impact the expectations of Shocker fans when they decide to come up to Omaha on future road trips. Those expectations can also affect how they behave while on a road trip- and those expectations can affect how Creighton fans are treated when they travel to Wichita for games against the Shockers. In my opinion, it does matter how fans in Wichita view the way that their brethren that traveled to Omaha were treated. As such, I responded. Lastly, if you look at the lack of debate from most Shocker fans, they probably either saw the events unfold live, or went back and reviewed what I said. They now know that nobody was booing their injured players, they know that their players were applauded when they left the floor. Will it make them hate Creighton any less? No, but it might keep them for unjustly hating Creighton more. I doubt it, but it also might help defuse a potential future fan altercation over this myth. The perception of how people are treated does matter. How many championships a team has, doesn't.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

      • I missed that part of the game. (On TV anyways) I could hear booing on the radio. But obviously couldnt tell what was going on.

Im not going to go out and say that either team is the better team. Creighton is better offensively and we're better defensively. But all in all both teams are even. The game in Wichita was ours the whole day. and as I watched the game unfold yesterday I harkened back to that day. We could do almost no wrong much like Creighton yesterday. With two evenly matched teams it is definitely trivial. I hope we meet again on CBS Sunday.

          • If Wichita was actually serious about hosting an NCAA 2nd and 3rd round Mens site then they would have made the arena more like the Century Link Center. It's a nice building. It doesn't feature the same technology(LED Ribbon Board) that IBA has as it is older, but it is HUGE. Great facility for hosting large events.

            Wichita dropped the ball honestly.

            • All in all I really hope this pains the team, I hope the team was sick to their stomach.

Can't beat yourself up too long about it....a lot of season left and I hope this gives them extreme motivation to go out and play harder and smarter than anybody else. Harder then other teams can even imagine playing. We're going to win the Lou and I'd hate to be on the team the Shockers get first on Friday.

              • I was at the game yesterday. Just got back today.

                Observations:

                1. The CU crowd was DEFINITELY not booing our injured players. They were booing that there was no foul called against us and they were booing Marshall. To suggest otherwise makes us look extremely dumb as fans.

                2. They have a very nice arena. But Koch is probably louder overall. But it has more to do with the way the buildings are built.

                3. Doug McDermott is the best player this conference has seen in a loooong time. Glad he's moving on soon.

                4. Carl Hall has a nice jump shot.

                5. Early was invisible besides his sweet breakaway dunk.

The person who said they were was using what he knew based off of the CU fans around him who were talking crap about our players who were injured on the floor. To dismiss his firsthand knowledge of what was going on around him is idiocy. He even said that maybe some or most weren't booing them, but those around him seemed to indicate that they were.

I think most understand what was going on. But you can't call out a guy who heard crap directly from CU fans about the incident. Are you saying he was making it up? Are you saying that there's no way that any CU fan could be that classless? Are you able to speak for the ENTIRE CU fan base?

                  • That's the problem with booing. A few people are booing a head coach, then a bunch of more people chime in thinking it was a blown call, then the drunken mouth breathers start booing because they think it's two players faking an injury. In reality everyone is right, as to the reason why people were booing. It just depends on what section you were sitting in.

Problem with booing? I love to boo! Booing is fun. Booing is great!!! They boo in Wichita, Omaha and even Kenosha. Oh yeah, they boo in Kenosha! Then again, they manufacture underwear and used to build the AMC Pacer in Kenosha. But I digress, booing is great, there is no problem with booing.

There is some booing etiquette, however
Don't boo your own team. Don't boo an old lady or young kid. Don't boo at a little league game, fight with other parents or punch the umpire. Don't boo injured players, always boo the opposing coach.

Once you know the rules, boo away! You'll be glad you did.

As the Kansas City Chiefs showed this year, there is also etiquette for cheering. Don't cheer injured players too quickly either.

Always boo the foursome of women playing slow on the golf course. They need to play faster or leave. Oh yeah, boo the retired guy that walks along the creek, looking for lost golf balls with the ball retriever he got for Christmas. Annoying as hell.
