I probably shouldn't feel this way but I went to the ISUR website and am completely amused. They were hyped about this recruiting class with the signed players and still hoping for Hawkins, etc. to be signed. They still have a couple of scholarships to fill. However, the last signing that Dana and Muller got is an extremely athletic JC player who averaged 2 pts. and 1.3 rebounds and has set off a firestorm or posts arguing the merits of signing a player with his upside or lack of productivity.

Dana Ford is probably a good recuiter for that area. While at WSU he could sell WSU's upward trajectory, facilities, fans, and air travel and the list just keep going on. Then he could bring in HC3G as the closer. At Ill. St. he doesn't have any of that and has Muller as his closer. Now if you were in his position where do you think you could attact the better recruits? I think Hawkins burned his bridges with WSU when he reopened his recruitment and WSU was no longer interested. HC3G only wants players that want to be here. Don't want to be here? Think you can do better elsewhere? Okay. We'll be just fine with someone that truly wants to be here.

I've been very amused by the ISUR fans that think they're going to be WSU because of all the JUCO players they have coming in. I don't think they realize that we recruit JUCO AA's. ISUR is not going to get the same quality JUCO players we've gotten in the past -- they don't have Heiar, HCGM, or years of success with JUCO players behind them to assist in the recruitment.

And not only do we get the best of the best from the JuCo ranks, they get coached up when they get here.

Illinois State is getting some very fine JUCOs in. They are nothing to laugh at, but I'll St needs them to be stars from day 1. The Shockers have consistently had the talent to allow the AAs to develop.
Every team this time of year gets a bit delusional about what they have for the coming year. We all are aware of the known quantities, but we have high hopes (sometimes too high) for the incoming freshman, transfers or JUCOs just starting with us. It all takes time, but Marshall and Co. have a way of getting the very best out of the new guys and in the shortest amount of time of any team in the Valley. I would say that could go beyond the Valley but I don't watch other conferences that close at the very beginning of the season.

You are so right. Every team is undefeated at this time of the year and no one has exposed any weaknesses in the home team. This is the part of the season that hope runs amok. That being said our Shocks look really really good.
