  • We aint no stinking MM: Artcle indicates Marshall is highest paid non-BCS coach

An article that came out on February 9, 2013 indicates that Greg Marshall is the 27th highest paid college basketball coach. The 26 listed that have a higher salary are all coaches from BCS schools (Actually the Memphis coach makes slightly more than coach Marshall- $1.69 million, but Memphis is on its way to the Big East).

They list Marshall at $1.45 million. The next closest in pay to Marshall from non-BCS conferences are: Shaka Smart, VCU $1.19 million; Steve Alford, New Mexico, $1.089 million; Mark Few, Gonzaga $1.056 million; and Greg McDermott, Creighton $1.025 million. Those are the only non-BCS coaches listed with salaries over $1 million annually.

Who are the highest paid college basketball coaches? A successful college basketball program can bring millions of dollars worth of revenue to a sc...

Look at what Xavier's coach makes, $484K. That's amazingly low for a program with some pretty good tradition. And UNLV: $450K. Wow.

Marshall made 1,482,000.00 in 2012 and should be making 1,582,000.00 in 2013. I don't know when his pay year ends but he should be earning nearly 1.6M during 2013. Of course if he wins the Valley and/or advances several games into the NCAA's he will earn even more.

        Interesting find.

I wouldn't argue with the premise that 3G is one of the highest, if not THE highest paid non-BCS coach, however, how do any of these lists acquire the salaries of private school coaches? That stuff isn't public info, and I imagine you'd get a good laugh out of any of them by asking for such. I'd be surpirsed if the gap between 3G and Chewbacca is that great, if there even is a gap.

Still nice to see the program get some pub, no matter the profile of the media source.

On second thought, with all due respect on that find, the list is horribly incomplete. Pick your favorite major conference and start counting off the schools listed. I did just the B12 and only got to 5 on the list I think. The bottom half of the B12 pays less than NC-Asheville's $100K? I don't think so. The list creator still has FM with KSU for goodness sakes.

Out of the MVC, just WSU and CU are listed. C'mon, we may loathe the MVC, but every one of our coaches makes many times more than the bottom of that list.

Ironically, I figured this out by looking for Turdgeons salary, since he is no longer "at this level" and all.

No way a guy with zero conference titles is paid the same as guy who has won his conference 7 times.

Those are last year's salaries and obviously incomplete. I suspect once he got down to the $1mil threshold the inclusions became selective.

How come no MT salary at a&m/Maryland? I'm quite sure he was/is over a mil.

Ricky Bobby is right. I doubt the writer (and I'm using the word writer loosely here) even turned on his Google Machine for information on this article.

While we're on the topic of salary and perks...On Thursday I witnessed the entire Nevada team going through DIA security. They played up in Laramie, WY the night before which is 2 hour drive from Denver. I happened to strike up a conversation with one of their student managers and he said if they have access to a "nearby" major aiport they fly commercial. Think about that - the Nevada team bused at least 4 hours just to fly in/out of DIA for commercial flight. That Thursday airport scene put it into perspective for me just how good we have it.
