I don't have any opinion about Higgins in particular.

I do seem to see a lot of the same officials working every night somewhere.

I wonder if some officials are working 7 days a week?

Good old "Baywatch" himself. We loved calling him that in the student section.

IMHO, John Higgins is considered a "good" ref because he tends to take control. He intervenes more quickly than most refs to stop players from going at each other and is quick with his technicals. In general, this is not bad thing. He also tends to try and control the game by dictating the flow of the game using fouls.

However, he also tends to want to be "the guy." He is often seems to want to make a big call at the end of games, even when such a call is not necessary or what the majority of fans would want. In many ways, he is the reffing version of Kobe. He plays hero ball by calling a ton of fouls (Kobe calling his own number), and trying to make "the call" at the end of the game even when his percentage isn't really that good.

He gets a lot of kindness from reffing communities because he is seen as an alpha dog that can control a game... but fans don't want an alpha dog ref. They don't even want to know the refs are there, especially at the end of the game.

Higgins let 10x more taunting go in last night's KU-OSU game without a tech than WSU players have committed in the last decade combined.

To the person who asked about Winston Stith, the last time I saw him work this season was the Diamond Head Classic over christmas. I forget which games he had, but I think he worked the championship game or the third place game. I may be wrong. I actually had the pleasure of meeting him when he was working a KCAC game earlier this season. Very knowledgable guy, loves to help out newer officials. At least that is the attitude I got from him.
