  • Shockernet Rocks

Today is a great day to be a Shockernetter.

    1) We played awful last night, but in spite of it we didn't really have a melt down -- just tons of post game expert analysis. :) Of course we bitched a lil' but that's not the same thing as melting down.

    2) We gave credit to Indiana State for whooping us. No excuses. No Creighton-esque -- "they didn't win, we lost" bull crap.

    3) We even had a couple trolls and handled it fairly respectably.

It's pretty cool to be part of a classy group of basketball loving nerds.

Not to be sCUm-esque, but the "they didn't win, we lost" is not always bull.

Teams I coached, in any sport, I emphazied to them that there is a difference between "getting beat" and "losing". You never hang your head after getting beat. You gave it your best, but sometimes that is simply not enough. You can control effort, but not always the bounce of the ball or the talent of your opponent.

"Losing" is filled with regret. Not over shots missed, but over not going into the game with the right attitude, a lack of hustle, and/or unusual mental errors. No team is always going to be on top of their game and no doubt health issues can affect a teams performance.

I guess I'd label our game last night as a combination. Indiana St's play was a big factor, but not the only factor. If there were health issues, I hope we don't find out about it (I'd like the other team to think they just beat a totally healthy Shocker team). If our effort/execution was close to our best, it's going to be a rough last part of the season. We have enough trouble right now making FTs and bunnies and looked as if we had never seen a zone before.

I agree its not always bull -- unless you are a typical fan of a couple certain schools. But I was referring specifically to last night. Indiana State's gameplan and execution on that gameplan was better than ours.

Thanks for the kind words Kung Wu. The fair-weathered fans come and they go like the New Years Resolution folk at the gym until around Jan. 7th. Then "they gone." SN is comprised of oodles of fans that have a passion for our beloved Shockers. We may wear rose colored glasses and not always agree with each other, but collectively, we get it mostly figured out on here quite accuratly.

Win or lose, we are right back on here getting our Shocker fix because that is what true fans do. We just keep coming back for more. Not only that, it is quite entertaining reading what is being said on here and sometimes some big laughs are in order which is great therapy for us all. What a great forum to share and learn more about Shocker Hoops. It is almost like we know each other in person when in almost all cases, we don't. One thing is for sure. Winning is fun so we need to find a way to do just that Saturday night.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

              Yea I ***** a lot, and I think I know a lot, when I really don't

Still not a fan of a heavy ball screen offense. ;)

The at large comment slipping away was unneeded and based inaccuracy.

Everyone was thinking Marshall would right the ship. Instead we continued our bad play, maybe even played worse. Makes sense to me. Next four games are "must wins."

I normally am a panicking maniac at this point but I've had a revelation since my earlier posting days and am thinking big picture. I'm kind of embarrassed for fans like CBB, among others, that go into meltdown mode like this. They just don't understand the pitfalls of college basketball. 4 losses in 23 games and WSU is an NIT team. It's just too funny.

Yup, you spoke too soon with this thread, Kung.
