We'd be so much better with Wessel and Baker healthy. At least next year we should have shooters. Baker, Wessel, Wiggins, Holland and Green.
I didn't think we would miss Wessel and Baker this much. Huge impact on our perimeter game.

    • _Kai_ I think the real problem is that Wiggins isn't getting enough minutes and touches. You want your 3-point shooter, there he is. Coach just needs to find a way to hide his defensive liabilities. IMO, his liabilities are far less than the 3 point shooting he brings to the table.

      • I am ready for Hall to return to the starting lineup and EO coming off the bench. Also, more Wiggins would be nice, even if he does not start. We need his Offense and we need it now. Nobody can stop Cle or Hall in the Valley if we can find a way to utilize them to the max. Our guards have not played like they were when we were winning. Our opponents seem to entertain Cotton and White to shoot 3's. We need higher percentage opportunities than those options have proven to be.

A road win next week will get us back on track. SIU has alot of guards and it was not until the 2nd half here that we adjusted to that. Just win Shocks!!! Just win.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

          Good Lord...
We lose 3 of our remaining valley games and go out first round in the valley tourny then yeah, we go straight to the NIT, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. Doesn't matter what 3 games we lose, if they are all on the road, or anything. If we drop 3 more and go out early in the tourny, mark my words, we go to the NIT without any thought at all

          • Its not the losing that really concerns me. Its the fact that virtually every one of our players' (except CH) overall performance has significantly deteriated over the last several games. Our guards are either frequently playing out-of-control or are so timid that all they can do is pass the ball back and forth playing catch with each other. Our movement sucks and too many of them are standing around waiting for the other fellow to do something. Then, with five or less seconds left, they panic and hoist an uncoordinated, badly positioned 3 pointer which is lucky to even hit the rim.

They have lost their rhythm, their confidence, and what little shooting touch they previously had. We can scream and cuss and bemoan the teams downfall, but until these are corrected, and it had better be soon, we are going to continued this downward trend.

Hopefully, GM and the coaching staff will quickly find ways for the team to regain their composure and to start back playing the brand of BB we know they can play.

I know we all hope they will and that this is just an annoying and frustrating bump along the road to the NCAA.

            • After watching today's game, I feel sick. Like December 2006/January 2007 sick.

That being said, here's hoping this was a down week, we come out refocused and take care of business and get some confidence back in the next four - who thank goodness - are also the bottom four in the league standings.

I still think very highly of our team, and realize so many goals are in reach and start-of-season expectations are being exceeded.

              • Wow guys calm down. This team has over preformed from what we all thought they would this year. Losing what we did last year no one expected us to do as well as we are. This is still a young team. The team is having a tough time and we need to continue to support them let the coaches coach things will be OK.

                • First 9 games: 9W - 0L, points for 73, points against 58, avg opponent RPI 176. Last 14 games: 10W - 4L, points for 66, points against 59, avg opponent RPI 122.

10 of the 12 times we've scored over 70 in a game came against teams with RPI's over 140.

Average score against teams with sub 100 RPI's 62 for - 59 against.

I for one didn't think that losing Baker and Wessel would be that big of deal for us. But it is evident that their perimeter shooting would be very helpful for this offensively challenged team. When the only scoring separation between the top 100 we've faced is only three points, I guarantee you that a few three's by Baker and Wessel would be gargantuan. Alas, we must accept our offensive shortcomings, know that our D will keep us in most games and hope that on that particular night, some of our guys get a lucky bounce.

                  • I would like to invite any and all frustrated and disappointed Shocker men's basketball fans to come out to Koch Arena on Sunday to blow-off some steam and enjoy the official WSU Super-Bowl pre-game party at 2:00 PM.

The Lady Shocks take on Indiana State as they close out the 1st half of the Valley season. A win keeps the Shocks in sole possession of 1st place at the half-way point at 9-0, a game ahead of 8-1 Creighton.

We certainly don't want the Trees scewing us over twice in the course of one-week on our home court. Should be worth the $8 for admission. I for one am looking forward to blowing off some steam after today's men's game.

                      No.

I'm very well aware of the fact that today was a 50/50 game. We lost it. We lost 2 games we were supposed to win (at Evansville, vs. Indiana State), 2 50/50 games (at Tennessee and at UNI). We also won a couple 50/50 games (vs. Creighton, at Bradley), and won a game we shouldn't have won (at VCU). I'd say it's all evened out.

4 losses in 23 games. The last two losses are concerning because a.) we haven't lost 2 Valley games in a row in 4 years, b.) our offense sucks. However, at 19-4, we're 2nd in the conference, 1 game out of 1st. Everybody in the Top 25 is losing game like crazy. But for some reason, this team is expected to go 28-2 during the year. The expectations have gone crazy on a team that wasn't even supposed to do anything this year.

I'm pissed off at the loss, but this whole meltdown stuff is just beyond embarrassing. Panicking with 2 losses to Top 100 teams, one of them Top 40. We hit a mid season lull. It's better than hitting a late season lull.

This thread makes me embarrassed to be a Shocker fan. Much more embarrassing than the losses this week.

                      • No meltdown here, disappointed fo sho tho! It does bring back memories of dec 06 when we were ranked #8. I was just as perplexed as I am now as to why we are losing. But I do have more confidence in HCGM to pull this team through the rest of the conference all while still getting an at large! Creighton lost 3 in a row last year, granted they were an 8 seed. But nonetheless we still dance

                            • Everyone knows that I'm Mr. Positive. But this team has given me nothing to be positive about in the last week. This has to be the worst week in Shocker basketball since HCGM's first year.

Let's say we played lights out D against SIU (or UNI or InSU), I could lean on that.
Let's say we shot our brains out and so did SIU (or UNI or InSU) and we still lost, I could lean on that.
Let's say we played smart basketball and the things just didn't go our way against SIU (or UNI or InSU) then I could lean on that.

There is LITERALLY NOTHING right now I can hang my hat on. That is not hyperbole. Our guard play is bad. Our post play is bad. Our outside shooting is bad. Our jump shooting is bad. Our at the rim shooting is bad. Our zone D is bad. Our man to man D is bad. Our dribble drive O and D are both bad. We can't do a pick and roll and we are getting burned on them as well. We aren't getting to the line and we are fouling like crazy. We are turning it over like crazy. We aren't rebounding like we should.

And it doesn't make me angry -- it breaks my heart. If this is how we played from the getgo this season, I wouldn't be so down. I could understand it. But we have shown better. A lot better. This is a 2006-2007 level melt down. It doesn't mean I don't love the Shox and it doesn't mean I won't be at the next home game and this doesn't mean I'm going to start booing college kids. It just means my heart is now broken.

Having said all of that, now I want to go into crazytown. You can't argue with what I said above. You can't. (Ok this is the internet and you can but herp derp). But what I'm about to say you can argue the hell out of.

The chemistry that we had with Hall out has been ruined with him back in. There was talk about him not happy with his role after the Bradley blow out and not starting again and then it has gone to hell since that game. But I'm not even saying his attitude is the problem or anything like that. Maybe just by having him in there other players are getting a bad attitude because their time has now been cut. I don't know and the fact I'm even thinking this is a sign of how down in the dumps I am.

Help me Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale, you are my only hope.
