    But let's compare firepower.

That Sweet-16 team's highest scoring players average was: 15.2 (Jamaal Tatum) ours is 15.4 (Early). Practically identical. Jamaal's career high was 37 points by the way .

Their next best player averaged: 12.3 (Randall Falker) ours is 13.3 (Hall). Edge to WSU. (Hall averages one more rebound per game than Falker did too). Randall had a career high 30 game against Evansville. Dunno what Hall's career high is, but I am pretty sure it isn't 30 -- we could see him hit that before it's over though.

Their next best player averaged: 11.3 (Matt Shaw) ours is 9.4 (Armstead). Strong edge to SIU. He had a career high 26 point game against Minnesota. Malcolm's career high is 21.

Their next best player averaged: 9.9 (Tony Young) ours is 8.6 (Williams). Edge SIU. He had a career high 30 point game against Bradley. I think Demetrics career high is 16?

Their next best player averaged: 6.3 (Brian Mullins) ours is 6.0 (Cotton) or 7.3 (Baker). He had a career high 24 point game against St. Mary's.

What makes WSU's offense better than SIU isn't that we have guys that can go off for 20+ points on any given night (so did they). It's that we have at least 2 more guys that can contribute substantial output consistently (Wiggins and Baker).

And we're tougher than a cow patty in the Texas sun.

Would you like a glass of water now that you have reviewed those numbers and would like to retract your 3x statement?
Nope. But I will amend it to 2.5x if it helps you sleep better tonight.

I watched those SIU-C games and the statistics don't tell the whole story. Sure, our current team can have an ugly game or two, but that is not intentional. SIU-C sat on the clock, ran into players on the perimeter, hand-checked like they had OCD, and otherwise did what they could to congest, confuse, and trample any semblance of beauty out of the game.

Oh, and Darren Brooks was the best player that team has had in decades and he literally killed us every time we met him.

Facts are hardly needed for a good story.

Nope. I'll go 1.125x because you made me laugh on the hand-check comment though (and because that's actually how much better the Shox are).

        Darren Brooks was a stud.

        • And another thing.. you can have a beautifully offensive game scoring 75 points or 95 points. Ugly BallTM cannot simply be defined by statistics even though it usually reflects the catastrophe that has just unfolded. When I say that Wichita State has 3x more firepower, I am using statistical -- but more importantly esoterical measurements of which are nearly impossible to quantify.

Unfortunately this is as far as I can carry you in the discussion. You either get it or you don't.

          • I watched those games in 2007 just like you did, and what I took away from them was that they played some seriously nasty defense.

Their offense was ugly, yes, but it was enough to accomplish the mission. Our offense isn't the prettiest thing in the world either, but it's not as ugly as SIU's was. I do think our offense is going to improve between now and March though to the extent your point will have more bite. But until then it's only potential and the comparison isn't that off.

I'm saying if you make it a point of emphasis, that you start telling kids not to shoot, you might as well drop those percentages another 10 points.
