  • WSU vs. Creighton Predictions and Pregame Discussions

Here's the deal. Let's get this party started. Can we do this thing? You bet we can. 3:00 Sat. in a blackout of bluejays. This is Our House and we play Defense. They are ranked around 10th at 17-1 and we are 16-2 and tough as nails at home. Welcome back Carl. Your services will be welcomed with open arms. We need to keep our turnovers to 9-11 only. Creighton does not beat themselves and the last time we played them here, they won which may have been our last home loss. However, the 21 point surpass at their yard shows what defense can do. D-Will will hit a game winning 3 at the buzzer for the win and a tie in Valley play.

Wish we coulda beaten Evansville, this place woulda been HYPE.

Either way CKA is gonna be a buzzsaw for the BJ's (at least it better be). However CU is very good this year, scary in fact.

Everyone has gotta bring their A-game. The Managers, the Police Dogs, the fans, Don Hall, da Bruce ( who should hopefully just be reporting and not broadcasting), the Stat team, the Concession stand workers, and most of all the Wichita State Mens Basketball team. Everybody. Now, don't make it sound like I am making this out to be some sort of upset of grand proportions, but it's just gonna need to be a well played game by the shockers, at all levels.

        Let's go. We're 3-0 in games I've attended this year, let's get to 4.

The mountains are calling, and I must go.

While Creighton may be playing better than us of late, I would not bet against Gregg Marshall and this team. 3G will have the team prepared for this game.
Shocker fan for life after witnessing my first game in person, the 80-74 win over the #12 Creighton Bluejays at the Kansas Coliseum.

3G did compliment how good Creighton is playing this year and knows they are a solid team. Even so, just as Ta Town Shocker mentions, our beloved Shocks Will be prepared!!! Defensively, we are better IMO. We will be pumped up to the max and we will Not be afraid of them or intimidated by them one iota. Even so, we have to keep the turnovers at a mild roar and execute on both sides of the hardwood for as close to 40 as possible. Wouldn't a win be grand with them being ranked 10th and receiving so much hype? Can we rain of their parade 2 Seasons in a row and make this a very exciting Valley Race? Oh yeal we sure can baybay!!!

Here is our edge in this heavy weight matchup. We have a Beast coming off our bench and they do not.

If we play like we have the last couple of games, we lose. No doubt about it. I think don't think that will necessarily happen though.

This game is huge for us because we are still evolving. If we can beat Creighton now, with the entire team still in flux and learning, we will be a dangerous team in March. Unfortunately, I think Creighton has the advantage in this one if only because of the situations for both teams. Even if we play top quality defense, they are good enough to win by just out-shooting us (seriously, Creighton is the best shooting team I have watched in the NCAA), and we'll need to play our best game of the season to win.

I think a close game will end with a win for us. We have been too clutch in big games for me to think we'd lose in front of a crazy CKA crowd. However, if the game is a blowout it will not be in our favor.

Dunno. I guess if I am being totally honest:

                WSU - 64
                Creighton - 76

Hate picking against the Shox, but trying to stay realistic. The Shox definately have the ability to win. Just going to take their best performance of the year. I worry about the turnovers lately. Creighton does play decent defense now and they have something like 6 guys that can all shoot at a high rate. Our guards are going to have to play amazing defense in this one and NOT foul. Gonna be a tough one. I think, like most sCUm games lately, the Shox keep it close until about the 14min mark of the 2nd half. Then they go on a run and hold serve.

PLEASE let me be wrong. Just a feeling. Regardless I plan on not having a voice after the game. LET'S GO SHOX!

Just wondering the spread Vegas will predict? When these 2 teams play however, anything is possible and the 2 teams will have a slugfest. Who wants it the most but can also execute to the max? Motivations will be high for both squads and both teams will be pumped. A win would look great on our resume' and make the Valley Race very exciting. Years ago we were in a funk but had a blackout game here versus them, beat them, and made them blue-birds all the way back to Omaha. We are very difficult to beat at home-suweet-home!!! Can u dig that? Groooovy graaavy!!!

Tell me how we are going to defend Dougie and Wragge and hold Dougie to 16 or less and I will predict a winner.

I have watched quite a few Blue Bird games this year and no one has defended Dougie. When he is in the paint, he is lights out. Too tough.

I do not think Carl can guard him. One on one, I think our best shot is EO. Tell me that I am crazy or loco. Either one.

Early, Hall, EO in a slightly altered 3-2 zone. When Doug is in the paint, EO plays it like a match-up zone and bodies Doug up. When Doug catches the ball on the block, Hall joins him. On the perimeter, you put Early on him to force him to shoot over someone as tall as him and more athletic.

Or something like that. I woudn't be surprised to see Marshall throw a few curveballs in this one.

Doug mentioned recently that Carl Hall defended him the best last Season. Since Carl is just back from an injury, look for a committee of Carl, Cle, and maybe a twist of Cotton. EO may be quite busy with guarding their big E. inside. Doug does draw lots of fouls but will will have to be on him like a cheap suit.

Might want to keep Cle off of McD so that he can stay in the game for offense. I like the combination of Cotton guarding McD and EO providing swat-side defense. Seriously, you can't let him get off those greasy, low-altitude slop shots from 3 feet out. Bump him out and deny him the ball, Tekele. EO, if he gets it, call the SWAT team. What is Gene Wiley's record for blocked shots in a game? 21? That mark could fall against "paper clips" McDermott.

P.S. - keep the three blind mice from the Illinois State game at least 200 miles away from The Chuck for this game. Seriously.

3G calls this the best Valley team he's seen. I expect he'll prepare as such. Shox have to lose this turnover epidemic. Break down Marshall vs Coach Mc Dermott, Early vs McDermott's kid. Echinique vs EO. Gibbs & Wragge have come up big but Shockers counter with Williams, Armstead, Cotton & Wiggins. SOS WSU has edge here.
Lose the turnovers, don't settle for 3's & a full fame if defensive intensity & Shox win like they did in Omaha.
