  • Cleanthony EARLY! gettin some PUB

Now i said this in the SIU game thread that if Cleanthony keeps having games like the ones he's been having he might eff around and not BE a shocker next year.......he might be playing a little TOO good lol......

His game isn't at a high level yet but you can see a very high ceiling for him. The biggest flaw that he has at this time is his ball handling ability. While he will continue to get some attention, I think that ball handling skills alone will not allow him to be a high level draft choice this year. He really needs to work on this skill this summer. You can see in games his inability to utilize his physical skills and speed on the full court break because of this deficiency. When he tries to run too fast, he loses control.

I agree wholeheartedly....he should come back....but if he scores like he's been scoring, the shox get in the big dance and he performs well on the BIG stage....teams may give him a first round promise....then will he return?

He has good enough shooting ability, size, and athleticism to make it as an NBA 3. From what I've heard, he is likely to return for another year because he wants to focus on his ball-handling and driving abilities in the offseason so he can work full-time at small forward next season. If he comes back and shows off improved skills in that regard (and maybe puts on some weight), I think he'll get enough attention to be drafted.

Enough of this nonsense about Cle and the NBA draft this year. He is really good right now, but not even almost ready for the NBA. Now next year, having time to work on the skills needed to excel at the next level, look out. But come on people, talking about him coming out this year is insane thinking.

I agree. His skills at this level translate more to a stretch 4 than any position he'll be drafted to play in the NBA. He has worked mostly on post moves and outside shooting, which will still be useful in the NBA but are not the most essential skills for a wing. He needs to show the lateral quickness and strength necessary to guard an NBA 3 and the ball-handling skills to drive from the perimeter. Those are both things that he could add by next year, but not something he is likely to spontaneously develop over the course of this season.

If he does develop those skills, Wichita State will be very dangerous. It is a win-win situation for us.

But everyone has to remember that the NBA drafts mainly on potential, not what they can do. It has been happening for quite a while now. Now, based on what I just said, he would be drafted second round. No guaranteed contract and not worth leaving school early for. If he was being told that he was going to be a first round pick, I could see it, but most likely he won't be. Strange things can happen though. Never say never when it comes to things. I believe this is one of those situations.

I'm only looking out for your best interest when I advise you to not bet much on the "second round" prediction. As you mentioned in another thread your "turbull" at betting successfully (lol).

Which is why I don't bet. I am just throwing out one possibility. I should have include "probably" in front of second round if drafted. The NBA is just a strange thing and you never know what is going to happen.

This seals it! Cle' is off to the NBA after this year.

the point of me making this thread

was that NBA scouts are looking at him NOW. He's getting pub about being drafted now and nbadraft.net is a credible source, aran the site's moderator is usually ahead of the curve he scouts and talks to NBA scouts about these things. Sure Early may not QUITE be completely ready for the NBA now, but they draft on POTENTIAL nowadays.....they feel like they can teach him something like balllhandling......do you think someone such as Nerlens Noel is anymore ready for the NBA than Cleanthony? Hell no and he's gonna go in the top 5.......it's only because he's already been on scouts radar since high school because of his high school achievements, cleanthony took the side route and is just now getting on their radar. I bet you if he averages close to 20ppg the rest of the way and the shox make it to the postseason and he does it in the tournament there's a good chance they'd look at him in the first round THIS year I'd bet my soul on it.

Marshall expects him to be a Shocker next year. He said how Cle does the next 18 months will determine at what pro level he will play.
