  • Tired of playing nice.....

.....WTF is up with not showing instant replays of controversial calls on the jumbo tron? College football teams do it all the time.

Is this some rule from the Missouri "Everyone gets a trophy" Valley or is it an NCAA thing? Or is it our athletic department being scared we may get Elgined.

Talk about firing the crowd up...that may even get some of the near deads to yell.

IIRC, the first year we had the video board they replayed a controversial call and the crowd went nuts (verbally) on the refs. They haven't shown one since.

It would be interesting to know the true reasons. If it is us being nice, stop it!

Do they do it other places? As a way to incite the crowd?

Let me make a wild guess. When it was done and the crowd turned on the refs, the refs complained to the league. Then the league complained to WSU. Now there's no option.

All I know is that Billy Tubbs would have instant replay for his home crowd.

I've never seen controversial calls played on the big screen at road venues I've been to.

They don't do it anywhere. I can't confirm whether or not there is a rule, but I've watched college football and basketball in more venues than I can even remember, but nobody does it. My guess is that the NCAA forbids it, but as I said above, I can't confirm it.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

                    That isn't what I've seen.

Not true....both K State and OU do it in football. Maybe there's justification because of the whole review thing, I'm not sure.

I've seen it in football. That said, I've watched basketball a lot of places and never seen it. A few examples, KSU, Tulsa, UMKC... Plus Tournaments in Maui, St. Louis, KC, South Padre, haven't seen much in the way of controversial calls there either.

I've traveled with the Shox quite a lot and have never seen it done either in conference or non-conference games. Also, major league baseball games I've gone to over the years have refrained from showing the really controversial plays on their video screens even though the telecasts of the games show them over and over.

Never mind found it about a page and a half down:

Some of the other rules are lame too.

Surprised it doesn't denote which parent is responsible for the juice boxes and granola bars after the game.

                            What a load of bullshat!

These are lame rules. Below are just a couple. The second one is relevant here. I included the first one, because there are some places in the Valley that clearly violate it. Some of the Valley PA announcers go way overboard with enthusiam for the home team.

1.Public address announcers must announce the contest in an even-handed manner with
equal enthusiasm for both teams. Additionally, there shall be an announcement
reminding spectators to adhere to good sportsmanship prior to each contest.
                              2. Institutions must refrain from showing replays on video boards where an officiating
call could be considered a substantial part of the play.
