  • WSU VE. S. Miss predictions and pregame discussions

Here's the deal. Now This would be a sweet win at Intrust Arena to lead us to Christmas. We have 9 players and some of them are gimpy. Even so, The Golden Eagles did lose several key players from a tough squad last Season. Whoa Nellie!! On Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, and Vixen. This will be a tough win to achieve but our brave 9 will find a way to guide us to 11-1, which would be grand. No, we are not put together with spare parts but rather we are in the mending stage and through it all, our quality depth and more distribution of minutes played, will become of essence as our beloved Shocks march forward in search of a big March to remember. I like these 12 Shox. I like them alot!!!

This one moved from "Safe" to "Toss Up" earlier this week. USM is no joke and has a decent chance at winning a crummy Conference USA this season.

I might give my pinky, thumb, ankle and foot up to have the boys back and get this win.

However, I still think there are reasons to believe we can win this one. Maybe we got the grinder out of our system against csu and will come out ready Saturday. I can barely pick a win, but I hold out a lot of hope! Can wait...

If the Shox have the intensity of the 2nd half last night, we are in good shape. They seemed to have more fun playing with energy. They will cone to play.

            Shox 73

They have some real close wins against 200+ teams and a loss to a 120+ team. In fact, almost all of their games have been close. The 8-3 record is a bit more intimidating than it might need to be.

On the other hand, I still know this is a good team that very well might get us. I'm just looking for the silver linings :)

This is certainly a winnable game, even for the emerging B team. Come on shocks!!!!

Those stats are pretty dang close. When you look at the USM schedule you see close games with RPI killers, and then you see that they were leading at Arizona by 8 on the road before losing. Hard to tell what they will bring, but they will be solid. This game will probably come down to FTs....

I just don't think Malcolm will settle down enough and I am guessing we get in more foul trouble than last night.

Our second game, post 3 starters out in addition to having a couple of banged up guys to boot, this team is in the throes of finding consistency and continuity. I also feel playing away from the Koch lessens the advantage we have.

                    We lose 71 to 62.

USM will have played 5 out of the last 6 games on the road, which might affect them a little bit. Despite being away from Koch, we'll still have the 'home court' advantage and USM has only beaten one team with a record over .500. These tidbits give me some hope. If the Shox make 75 percent plus of their free throws, commit less than 13 turnovers in the game and win the rebounding battle, we will win 71 to 62.

I swear, if we could only suit up 4 guys and one of those were a double amputee, you'd still pick us to win!! Just by 5 instead of 7! I love it!!

If the Shockers play like they did in the 2nd half of the Charleston game, and play that way all game long we will win. Early and Hall have basically rotated as leading scorers thus far. I say that we will be fine and surprise alot of people if Cleanthony and one other player can consistently shoot in double figures. With Shadrack crashing the boards and scoring,we may not be games before Carl and the others return (believe it or not). Shadrack is way better than Ehimen so that will not be a problem. Gooo Shockers!!!

Winning is best is when it is not by default . Winning is best when we play well enough to win.

"Ralph Miller was one of the finest coaches in the history of intercollegiate basketball. His teams were always fundamentally sound, team oriented, well conditioned, and ran both their offense and defense with great patience. I know of no coach whose teams competed against his, whether it be at Wichita State, Iowa, or Oregon State, who did not have great respect for him."—John Wooden

This game will be ugly. Not just ugly, but UG-LY! I expect both teams to foul a lot, turn the ball over, and struggle to score at times. In order to win, we have to win the rebounding battle (lower second chance points), convert from the line, and turn 50/50 balls into 70/30 balls.

                              Final score:

                              Us: 57
                              Them: 50

Game is closer than that score, we go up 4-5 points from FTs at the end. X-factors of the game are Cleanthony Early and Ehimen Orukpe. If Cleanthony can get to the line, he could single handily bolster our offense and greatly aid our chance to win. The question about Orukpe is whether or not he is healthy enough to defend the paint, but if he can give us 80% of what he gave against Iowa we should win the game.
