I joined here today to voice my displeasure of our Shockers being ranked No. 24 and we can't sell out the Roundhouse?

When Turgeon was here, we sold it out with season tickets before the beginning of the season. Butts in the seats were never good in December except for teams like Texas Tech, etc. January was always better for butts in seats during the league when we were in contention. It'll get better. However, while we were usually Top 50-60, we were never #24 during that spell. I don't know how much of a difference that would have made. But it will better than it is now.

I guess I just don't get all this how poor the fandom is. The average attendence (season tickets + extra butts in seats) is just 200 below capacity so far. I think one could make a good case for the economy adversely affecting attendence by 2% of capacity. What I don't understand is why all this outcry for corporate seat holders to put their unused seats up for sale when there is seating available? Oh, maybe it's that people want better seating. Maybe it's that they want the corporates to put extra seats up for free. Maybe it's both.
Maybe we should have an arena that seats only 6,000 like Gonzaga. They fill that sucker up. The metro population of Spokane is like 480,000 compare to Wichita's metro of 630,000, yet, just a few years back when it was time for a new arena, they decided 6,000 was large enough.
Of course we could have an historical building like Hinkle Fieldhouse at Butler in Indianapolis. It seats 10,000. However, over their first four home games they averaged only 6,500 fans.
Maybe when WSU does something really special like Gonzaga and Butler have done over the years, we too can be proud of our fandom.

I know this will ruffle some feathers. But bigger name opponents wouldn't hurt. In reference to Gonzaga, they have ooc games at home against W. Virginia, Illinois, K State, and Baylor. No matter what, those teams will draw better than NC Central, W. Carolina, Howard, and N. Colorado. I don't care what the Shocks record is, or how high they are ranked, HCGM and ADES should consider themselves lucky to get the crowds their getting with a junk schedule like that."Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

I don't see what is unacceptable. IMO, when you have 300 empty seats in an arena that seats 10,500, we are talking about a utilization rate in excess of 97%. Most facility owners would kill for that kind of utilization rate.
What I HAVEN'T seen here is how many seats in the CKA are partially obstructed. Myself, if I were the casual fan (not a season ticket holder), I would not want to pay my good money to watch a concrete support play basketball.
That being said, perhaps the AD could consider scheduling more games at Intrust. I have heard from these blogs that are a lot of poor seats (for BB) at Intrust, but if you are having games there and drawing 12-13,000 people, you have a point to start from and back into.
If the team was only drawing 9,000 people (aveage), I would agree that that number is unacceptable. However, we are not talking 1500 empty seats per game, we are only talking 300 seats.
Anyone who thinks that is unacceptable is taking themselves way, way too seriously.
BTW, and as a final note, I would be willing to make a substantial wager that Hinkle Fieldhouse (home of the Butler Buldogs) seats less than CKA, but they STILL made back-to-back championship games. While I do think that building a new facility for the Shox seems to be feasible and might be good for y'all (I live in Houston, I can't get to the home games), I would hope that the AD and his staff would do their homework and build a plan in a deliberate manner.

But I was checking unsold tickets for the Tulsa game (a few hours before game time) and what kept coming up were row 34 seats for $34 each and a disclaimer that seats in row 34 might be sight restircted.
So while I was disappointed WSU didn't quite sell out for Tulsa, I can understand why someone might now want to pay $34 to possibly sit behind a pillar.

Cameron Indoor seats only 9,600. I don't think that has had a negative impact at all on that program.

I am sorry but it shouldn't matter who the team plays. Are you a fan of the shockers or the visiting team? Sure, it's more exciting to watch a back and forth competitive game but true fans go to all the games regardless of opponent.
