      • 13 assists to 1 turnover for Zion.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

        • I was happy for how Cortes filled in tonight. There’s been plenty of games where he’s played terrible, but he didn’t press too hard and he controlled the offense. We don’t need our PG to be a hero in this offense and Cortes did just what was needed.

          • Did the Shocks only attempt one 3 pointer in the second half? New dimension to the game plan? More of Q on offense for those who were imploring Mills, you asked and HCPM obliged.

            • I think Ballard got more touches because Hill wasn't playing. Cortes has always utilized Ballard more heavily than Hill does.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

              • Put me in the camp that thinks we possibly lose that game with Hill. Never play him again and let the younger guys take a run at it.

Getting a 15+ usage % is purely a coaching choice, and easy to obtain.

Getting sub-100 DRtg is a longer term problem, but can be solved in the short term by stomping your foot like a maniac and shaking the watch on your wrist when your players aren't doing it right.

                  • Statistically Bell had a nighty -- but I guess he recognized he was having an off night and didn't shoot us out of the game.

Ballard was outstanding as usual, but damn he needs to spend some time on free throws.

                    • Hard to make any assessments from last night as Charlotte was terrible. We were even worse the first twelve minutes of the game. Good game for ZP to get his feet wet but I wouldn't be to quick to judge given the opposition which also made BC look good. Basically CW and QB simply stood out above all others in the game. AJM had a good night offensively, as well, but stunk on defense as did RD a couple possessions. Winning last night or ZP doing okay against a very weak team didn't raise my level of optimism any. ZP is still way behind Hill. I think HB would have had a big night driving last night against their pathetic defense.

I'm almost to the point of saying he should be our primary ball handler/play maker. For all his faults, the ball does not stick when he's in the game, and he's also the only one that tries to get our best player involved on offense.

I think he earned the chance to get more time. Let's see how he does against a better team though.

At the very least, this game demonstrated that Hill should be on a much shorter leash.

Hill has talent, but he thinks he's got a lot more than he actually does. When he starts calling his own number is when the doom music starts playing.

                            • I had a thought.....It seems like most games our primary offense is to drive to the hoop if there is the slightest slit in the defense, then force a shot up. Three of our starters do this regularly. And when they do, it eliminates the possibility of ball movement and involving our bigs.
I noticed in the North Texas game that we fell behind in the beginning, then bell had foul trouble and took a seat. During that time he was sitting, we made a run. It happened again in the second half. Then last night, we had 2 of our drivers out of the game. We still kind of sucked, but ball movement was better than normal. So is it a problem to have to many guys looking to drive each time they touch the ball? I don't know, but I think it's a possibility.

                              • The problem is that so many guys drive the ball with their only plan to force up a shot. That's where Bijan and Zion are different as they actually look for their driving to open up others, like good PGs do. Yes, BC has flaws and ZP is young, but having them in and the ball in their hands can actually create open shots for others rather than just throwing up **** and hoping it goes in or someone is there to rebound it.

To sum up; driving isn't all bad. It's what you do when you get there that matters.
