  • For those thinking the other team keeps getting lucky from 3 against us. Here are the 3p% allowed rankings via KenPom for Paul mills coached teams
    Year Rank
    2018 258
    2019 347
    2020 231
    2021 212
    2022 229
    2023 208
    2024 105
    2025 231
Its a coaching/scheme problem, not a luck problem. Teams ALWAYS shoot good from 3 vs Paul Mills teams .. because of bad defense.

For reference, 3G coached teams generally were in the 30-80 rank range

    • Paul Mills would have to get better to suck. Get this bum out of here.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

        • My advice to fans, whatever it's worth, is to just enjoy whatever it is you can find to enjoy with this team. We are not the Shockers of 2014. Everything is up in the air, including college sports. We have the current coach for at least another year, most likely two. We do have some very nice talent. Washington is straight out of the Play Angry era. He's worth at least $500k in today's stupid NIL dollars. He made me smile so much tonight I couldn't even count. I should be supporting our team better.

          • Weak perimeter defense continues to go unfixed. Two lazy inbound passes ended up hurting badly. Pathetic attendance. Beatings continue until morale improves.

Just a bad team, bad defense and worst of all, poor coaching decisions tonight.
I've been HCPM supporter. But his lack of recognizing that Ballard could not defend multi colored kid (Walker) was disappointing.
Walker burned Ballard over and over and over and yet HCPM did not adjust.

This team just doesn't know how to play upper level D1 defense. ECU is not exactly an offensive juggernaut.
But they looked like one tonight against this lack of defense and recognition of how to adjust.

The ECU HC made HCPM look foolish and inept.

Why did they not switch Ballard off of Walker? How many times did he need to get smoked?
I got tired of watching it happen over and over and over.

This team is now in full control of the basement of the AAC and nothing is going to change anytime soon this year.

Full warning! Do not watch the Memphis game. Especially your children within your home!

              That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

              • Right now I would rather donate to a fund to fire Mills than donate to NIL. Did Mills look at anything other than a stat sheet when he recruited McGinnis? Prior to coming to WSU, McGinnis had great metrics and Mills loves him some metrics. Unfortunately there are very few metrics that track whether a player can defend another player.

I think I could evaluate talent better then Mills can because I would look at what a player did against better opponents rather than looking at metrics that may not transfer to a higher level and more physical environment.

Right now WSU is an ideal home for perimeter players who weren't getting minutes because they were Me! Me! Me! players. Mills seems to like then because they fit his iso one-on-one game schemes. They love WSU because they know they are free to BellFail any time they have the ball in their hands and there will be no repurcusions from the coaching staff. We seem to have a roster of mostly hero ball players.

Or maybe hero ball is Mills go to offense. Seems like it worked for him when he had an NBA caliber PG and a bevy of 3 point shooters. I used to be one of the main "give him a chance" guys supporting Mills. I gave him a chance. 12th place in a 13-team conference and losing at home to UMKC and ECU is what he gave back for my trust in him.

Saal better have his butt cheeks tightened up pretty firmly because the money guys may not trust him to hire the next coach.

                • ShockRef - I have a question.
I was at the game and the Washington follow dunk that was disallowed was right in front of me. Is that reviewable? If so, doesn’t it have to be right away? I may be wrong, but I thought Washington ended up with the ball in his hands after it came back out, but the refs had called it a basket. What was he supposed to do? If it was actually a live ball but the refs have called it a basket, then the player is kind of in no mans land. The ECU coach was complaining right away, but play was allowed to continue even though there was a short pause, and the basket was disallowed at the next stoppage. This isn’t like a 3 point shot being reverse to 2. This involves possession of the ball. Did the refs handle it correctly?

Pretty sure they said it was reviewed and overturned during the media timeout. They took 2 points off the board and it went from 10 to 12 point deficit.
