  • Not to mention he said he’s not one to challenge, challenge players. Sounds like he’s telling them what to do, but not enforcing or leading them to d o it. The man does not belong here.

      quick poll.. how many would send their kid away for college and not flip a $hit if coach put hands on your kid?

      i’d love to hear from the “nothing to see here as long as we win crowd”
      I'll answer the hypothetical question. First, I'd be willing to bet a lot of his top players would re-up with him again. Not all but more than not. Now if I hypothetically had a kid with the talent and drive to want to be the best version of himself as a player, and he knew he was going to play for the reincarnation of General Robert Montgomery Knight, then I'd have no problem sending him off. Let's not pretend that GM was just randomly assaulting players for shits and giggles. Like he was some mindless sadistic evil genius. I do think just like Bobby Knight that he had a short fuse and at times couldn't control the rage. That just comes with the package and everyone has to know that going in.

      Caveat to all this is that it's a meaningless hypothetical mindfxck game. GM is never coming back and for that we may never recover.

        Hypothetically, if you were to encounter a serious issue at work tomorrow, an issue that would warrant termination of one's career, would you deal with it or wait 6 years?
        Or, Hypothetically, do we encounter issues that we grow from. I had an employee that I tried not to fire in May & June. I probably should have. This person ended up battling through health issues and warrants a new opportunity with cautious optimism. Now Hypothetically, the past issues are in the past. I'll deal with the new issues as they come up. I can't Hypothetically hold the over issues on the table for 6 Hypothetical years.

        • Did GM actually physically hurt Shaq? What were his other transgressions? Was it all worth destroying the program? Not as far as I am concerned. I am wondering how many of you could have made it through a couple days of Army or Marine basic training......or today's players. We need a tough coach and a coach who holds players responsible for lazy selfish play ( CW and maybe XB excluded )

            • Does CW or XB have the same opportunity as Baker or Fred? Or even Shaq?

                  • think about NIL, the athletes get paid, a scholarship, I would think housing and a meal plan.
                    I work to get bonus $ to pay my bills and feed my family.
                    Are they getting the experience to make their lives better after this golden opportunity, or is this the highlight?

                      This has all been hashed over before, so I'll try to keep it simple (if I have something wrong, please feel free to correct).

                      Basically, Shaq was lazy. While Shaq's mother was living, she told and in trusted GM to push him to get the best out of him, not only as a basketball player, but as a young man and student. Shaq left at least once to go back home, and his mother told him to get back up there.

                      After Shaq's mother passed away, he was later getting back than he was supposed to be for practice. During the scrimmage, Shaq, from behind, lowered the boom by sending a fellow teammate hard to the floor. Coach came unglued. On his own, Shaq was leaving the floor to go to the locker room as Marshall followed trying to get him to stop and as they went into the tunnel GM gave him a rap on the back of the head to get his attention (so GM said). To my knowledge, no player actually saw it and only knew what Shaq told them.

                      Personal Opinion: It seemed that Shaq embellished what may have happened to certain players on the team.

                      Side note: A year or two after that, in an interview with a reporter before a post season game in a day or two, Shaq was asked about his relationship with Marshall. Can't quote it, but it was basically "He was OK with Coach, and he hoped Coach was OK with him".

                      That was until a few years later and a different picture was presented by the "out of basketball" Shaq at home during another interview.

                      Anyone can feel free to correct.

                      I agree with your opinion asiseeit .

                      • It's the sequence that was the problem ...

                        Shaq --> Father pop
                        Assistant coach --> Roadhouse throat rip
                        Parking violator --> Ass chewin

                        ... just needed to be ...

                        Shaq --> Ass chewin
                        Assistant coach --> Father pop
                        Parking violator --> Roadhouse throat rip

                            I don't know if I ever posted this before, so forgive me if so...before Shaq arrived, he played at several Edmond schools, ending at Edmond Memorial(ironically Bill Self's alma mater)...my nephew in law( not really a thing...I know that:). ) was a coach at his sophomore school, and he told me that he could never see Shaq and Marshall working out ...when Shaq graduated, I triumphantly said " Guess you were wrong'...nicely, or course..
                            Looks like he wasn't....

                              Yup, and conveniently right in the middle of the #MeToo and BLM riots, was it not?
