  • Is there a future for the MWC/MVC Challenge?

The MVC apparently is in favor of continuing the Challenge starting in the 2014-15 season but there is some opposition in the MWC.

Interesting. Last I'd heard, it sounded like there would be a year off and then start up again. I think both conferences could benefit from it. Especially at the top. And I'd guess that the MWC is stabilizing a bit which would help.

They need to get rid of the "you can't play a team twice" rule. That's caused big issues with matchups lately. Get that out of there and it's a great event for both parties.

I think Alford is just bucking for a BCS conference.

I think you are right, but he did include the Big West in his statement. Which makes no sense at all.

With everything that's going on I'm not too sure what the MWC will look like in two years. It could have a complete facelift, good or bad.

The MWC will be fine. If anything, I could see the BE losing Boise and SDSU football and both would be back in the MWC. I don't see it getting weaker.

And the point of the conference vs conference challenges has nothing to do wtih geography; B1G vs. ACC anyone?

That statement by Alford was just plain ignant.

Those conferences recruit in each others areas. I'm guessing much of the MWC does most of their recruiting in the western part of the country so what he was saying isn't all that bad. The XII may not be any more west, but they're a bigger name that would get much more exposure for the MWC. So what he says makes sense from that stand point.

Alford said geography, not conference status. I can certainly understand why he would want the Big 12. But again the conference challenges aren't based on geography. It is about match-ups. PAC10 vs Big 12? Big East vs SEC?

3-2 MWC, with 3 games left.
