  • Power Rankings- CNNSI

Luke Winn has Wichita State ranked #16 in his latest power rankings, but the most interesting part of the article is his comparison of Doug McDermott to Cleanthony Early. Pretty good stuff right there.

"Pretty amazing, under-the-radar feat being pulled off by Gregg Marshall: After losing the top five guys in his rotation from last season's Missouri Valley regular-season championship team, the Shockers are 7-0, including a win at VCU, and they're essentially even with Creighton in kenpom.com's efficiency rankings. (The Shockers are No. 34, Bluejays are 32.)

The biggest reason why has been 6-8 juco transfer Cleanthony Early, whom Marshall -- back in November 2011 -- called "the most complete offensive player I have recruited in my tenure at Wichita State". Early has backed that up by posting a nearly identical usage/efficiency profile to the Valley's most famous player, Creighton's Doug McDermott, albeit in fewer minutes."

I sure wish national press would start using the WU logo instead of the old wheat logo.

and next year, after losing armstead, hall, orupke and williams, very important players on this years team, the shockers will still have fvv, early, lufile, white, baker, green etc.... not bad.

edit: can't forget wiggins, coleby, and watson etc. for next year.

Let's add also bringing in a D-1 experienced center in Coleby.

And the newcomers include a top-150 post, a top-150 PG, a combo guard with a green light the moment he crosses mid-court, and a freakishly athletic 6'7" JuCo. Don't forget the 6'9" 5th year Sr with 3 years of D1 experience, who's already practicing with the team.

I have no doubt we will once again be a contender. In fact I'll just go ahead and be the first to say we will be the pre-season MVC favorite.

CU's significant seniors are Echenique, Josh Jones and Grant Gibbs. Many think Dough McDermott, a junior will turn pro. I wouldn't bet much on it as the last I saw on Draft Express he was ranked in the 70's.

He has to be referring to Shaquille Morris as the top-150 post and DJ. Bowles as the top150 pg. Bowles is in the top 150 by some, but not Rivals or Scout. I think you can certainly say he is a top 200 and very close to top 150. I don't believe I've seen Morris mentioned in any top 150.

Most of his college points come from deep in the paint.

In the pros, I doubt, if that will happen.
