I took quite a bit of heat for my dislike of the Mills hire. That was totally fine and was somewhat expected. Mills found magic in a bottle and successfully recruited a star player for ORU in a league that was in the bottom quarter of Division I and gained ORU Cinderella status. I still contend that Mills long connection to Baylor on the coaching staff was way overblown. He might have been a third chair at best for one year in his long tenure there (15 years, I believe, which is also a little strange). Had he also been successful at a higher mid-major as a head coach, things might be different now.

It is what it is. I don't see a removal of him is going to help our financial problems. We've already got too much on the books as it is along with facing NIL.

Any suggestions?

Many people on this forum questioned why ADKS would fire IB a year early instead of waiting a season and having a bigger war chest for the new HC. The only explanation was that, surely, ADKS had a great candidate lined up. I don't know if another candidate reneged on their prior commitment to WSU, but hiring HCPM was not worth paying all the extra buyout money to IB. This was true when HCPM was hired and it's even more true now.

I think ADKS has done a solid job overall, but I do wonder if a more experienced AD would have handled the situation differently.

This is one of the few things that make sense. We had a good prospect who backed out, leaving us to search for a D1 head coach on Ali Baba.

The only other thing that makes sense is boosters stepped up and said they'd cover the difference in Brown's buyout, just to get him gone. I'm sure they regret that now.

I felt like Mills wasn’t the right guy the first time I heard him talk. I knew he wasn’t cut out to be here when we played a game last year and ESPN 2 did a half time segment on Mills and all he could talk about was Baylor giving him a ring after they won the National Championship. He almost never mentioned WSU that whole time. WFT dude you are coaching at WSU and all you can talk about is Baylor and Scott Drew. Then I knew he needed to go when he said he didn’t realize how tough the American was and he needed to recruit better players than he did at ORU, again WTF how did he not know the American had way better talent than the Summit. Wichita will never take to Mills like they did Turg and GGG. No toughness, no attitude, no us against the world personality. Dude get on the bus and go sweep floors for Baylor again!

With that said, he fixed it and pretty quickly. Which Mills has not done yet.

his final opportunity for that is next year imo. It feels like he’s referenced recruiting multiple times as of late. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, because maybe the teams noticed that and that he’s given up on them. Hence why they straight don’t give a **** anymore. That’s not a good sign of good coaching. Gotta finish through the end and then bring out the scalpel.
