    Armstead LIVES for the buzzer-beater
White had a great defensive game
Our starting five was better, our bench was deeper, and our coach is more experienced. I think Manning will be a great coach it's just going to take time and get a veteran team, not a bunch of freshman.

Good team win, Refs were garbage. On to the next
I thought the black ref did a nice job.

The old guy, one about my age, had a chip on his shoulder and was spoiling for a one sided fight. He got after Early pretty good on one play. Early was smart enough to walk away. As I recall Fred sorta guided Early away.

Early was beggin' for an 'early' T.

        • Thoughts from the game:

          1. Our defense missed Orupke. Yes, I know we won by a lot, but you could see the impact Orukpe has in games by his absence.

          2. We are shooting more 'natural' threes, and that is helping out percentages. This is good.

          3. This was the best game FVV and Lufile have played. You could see Marshall was trying to give FVV the experience of leading a team, especially right before half time. FVV is just sneaky good, and Lufile does a lot of little things well (seems very coordinated, throws crisp passes, tries to do something every time he touches the ball). As long as Lufile doesn't force things, he is a very good player.

Overall, we weren't the defensive team that beat Iowa or VCU, but that is to be expected with Orupke out and Armstead getting limited minutes. Hall can bring the same type of explosive defense (the blocked dunk!), but he doesn't have the same constant presence Orukpe has in the lane. Lufile doesn't seem like a shot blocker either, though that might change with more minutes.

However, this is the best we looked offensively. Smooth passes (though sometimes a little risky), and a well balanced front between penetration, post scoring, and outside shots. Still can improve though. Hall could have made a lot of the those bunnies (I think he almost needs to be clobbered to make his shots), Early's jumper could fall, and Wessel could learn to catch and shoot more. Gotta like the improvement though, especially without a ton of minutes from the starters.

That's good. I've been calling him "Street Cred Fred."

              • For those in the know, does Lufile hit those nasty 10'-14' shots at a high percentage?

It was very cheap. A foul at the VERY least, a flagrant at the worst. That was the only negative coming from the Tulsa side tonight. I thought the applause for Manning was quite classy of Shocker fans and represented the fanbase well.

We're very efficient when our offense rolls like that. A very pleasing win for the Shocks. Tulsa's young. They have talent and will be good down the road, as soon as Manning gets settled in there. Great defensive effort, even without EO. I think we would have held em under 45 if EO played tonight. A lot of the young pups got good minutes. Impressed with all of em. Gutty effort by Carl being under the weather. Baker finally found his stroke in the 2nd half. Only real downside was the abysmal fee throw percentage. If we shoot a normal percentage, this one was a 30+ point blowout.

Overall, very good game. Air Force is gonna be a tough one.

                  • I'm not gonna lie, I love EO and all, but Lufile looked awfully good tonight. Mid range shooting, great vision and assist type passing, quick smothering guard like D (rather than goalie type D) among other things. He will be a a good post player but right now he almost looks like he would rather model his game after Cle than EO. It was a nice change of pace.

EO, Hall an Lufile are a very diverse three headed post monster.

Yes, a few games ago I was questioning his athleticism. I now think it was mostly freshman tentativeness. He was great tonight.

I have no facts but his recruiting video looked like he fancies himself a shooter. I think he actually might. I came away pretty excited about him tonight.

Fred just gets better and better with each passing game.

Fred just has it. By it, I mean he achieves what you do not expect him to achieve.

As an example, Fred is not fast and he is not quick. Hence, one might think he might not be able to penetrate very well. Actually, just the opposite is true, He just has a way of worming his way down the paint and then he knows what to do with the ball, when he gets there.

He is so heady. He makes some very smart passes, he slaps a lot of balls, he gets rebounds and best of all, he just makes plays
                          .
Ricky, Van Vleet is taller -- and maybe even bigger -- than Avery Johnson was when he used to play for the Spurs with David Robinson, and Johnson could somehow cruise down the lane through the trees with amazing regularity even though it didn't look like he was going all that fast. Fred seems to have the same knack.

When they cheered as they announced CU was behind they showed the ignorance. Until we play them or until they get to conference play we want them to win win win. Oh well.
No, not credit to our fans. Those are ChickenHawk fans dressed as Shocker fans. We have quite a few of them in Koch Arena. They were just applauding "their boy". Shocker fans would not applaud Manning any more than they would applaud any other opposing coach.

And cheering for sCUm to lose is not ignorant but normal. Who and what you root for has no bearing on the outcome of the game. To rationalize that a stronger CU means a stronger WSU is to adopt a welfare mentality. Wichita State can make their own destiny with or without anybody's "help". **** BJ and **** the MVC.
