Yeah just tells me he’s lost this team if they’re not even trying. I get a bad feeling that the wheels are gonna come off the bus soon.

He stands under the basket when the ball goes up and relies on his height to outreach defenders for rebounds. It’s not just him, but it’s so frustrating to watch guys that refuse to push defenders out of the lane with their butts. We used to team rebound and the ball could essentially fall into the lane because it was full boxed out. We are so far from that now.
Not much of anything impressed me about last night including QB's 14 boards and you are absolutely spot on that he does not have good rebounding instincts. Glad we have the big guy though and he does play within himself by not taking low percentage shots. The rest of the team except for AJ last night was pretty sorry rebounding and shooting.

      • Terrible shot selection, lack of rebounding. Both things that should be correctable with coaching. Is there any going on?

        • What's the point of recruiting anything but Seniors? The underclassmen we've got on the roster only get spot minutes. If they were getting rotation minutes they'd probably be picked off by richer programs.

The same would hold true for JuCos. If they do anything at all in their Jr. year, they're not going to be here for their Sr year.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

            • I apologize to the folks sitting in front of me at the game last night. I have gotten a little bitter. I may need to start staying home.

              • Same. I think I've mellowed as I've aged, but my fam harshly disagrees.

I'm trying to seek balance in my assessment of the product, but it's difficult. I could never imagine a 7-1 start where I was this discouraged (especially considering 3 neutral and 1 road game out of 8) with the product. I like the kids. I do. I like the general concept we're trying to execute. I don't like many of the specifics. It's simply difficult, overall, to be enthused right now.

More blame on the industry than anything else, but we all share responsibility.

With our talent and strengths, we must keep shooting good 3s. More AJM. Those shots have to be taken. You see what UNI and Alcorn State have done...packing in the zone. If we don't shoot and make those.....it's going to be SO much worse come league time. I know it sounds ultra simplistic, but there are no other options. Take the open 3s, and make more of them. Or we're going to be under water in the AAC.

And we absolutely HAVE to get better movement off ball. We stand around FAR too much for an average high school team, to say nothing of what should be a good D1 team. Maybe we just need to Loyola Marymount this thing and fire up shots within 10 seconds every time.

                • When the ball doesn't move they stand around more. No reason to move if no one is going to see you and pass. Then, all that lack of movement carries over to rebounding effort. Your first five lines above sums up my own feelings, as well. It's hard to get enthusiastic about the game the way it has evolved. I don't hate Creighton like many do. It was fun watching their style of play last night.

Good thing we didn't lose by 24? FSF was not satisfied either.

I agree. Let's get back on a more festive track...

                        Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I'm sorry Acting President Kamala Harris. I'll stay off the forum for a while...

                        • I was so disgusted with a team that quit and embarrassed everyone against Florida that I imposed a one game suspension on them and didn't go last night.

                          But I watched, lol.

We passed the ball much better. More driving and passing.
Yes, this team is frustrating. We all want a team like the teams at the middle and end of GM's tenure.
What we have is a team that reminds me of GM's first NIT team that lost the first game.

I know the difference is we have 9 seniors, but we do have some really good pieces to build on, both on the team and commits. Mills actually did a great job of retaining players last year. We have to hope it continues. If it does, being patient will pay off. Something I'm not very good at.

yeah I won’t lie, I don’t want a team like at the end of GM’s tenure (depending on when you classify the end is lol). But absolutely want the nitty gritty play style back. I fell in love with how we played against St. Louis’s team this season. Like what happened to THAT version of our team??

Being patient in this environment isn’t easy. That’s for sure. I do hope Mills pulls it out. But I worry that people actively want him to fail and refuse to contribute to NIL just see him do it. If only because he’s not Marshall.

personally speaking, I think all the big donors need to get over themselves and realize that everybody that was involved then is gone. It’s time to make Wichita st a success again. College basketball is better when we’re good, and you’ll see that echoed all across the internet.
