Agreed, but they are among the most difficult teams to prepare for when it comes to teams that you are superior to athletically. And if anyone thinks BJ is taking this game lightly or just a road game to build on for later, think again. They will have a variety of approaches and schemes, to say nothing of 1000 plays to run, and it will be all hands, coaches, players, managers etc etc on deck to try and rub a home loss in our face.

The percentage chance that they frustrate us in some manner is about a million. Defense will win this game, certainly for us. Pressure, length, getting turnovers which we can and will turn into points with a full court game will be very difficult for UNI to counter. However, a half court game where they get to run plays and on D, get to set up and wait for us is a game we don't want to play against these guys. Witness the MSU game over the weekend. When we turned them over and got out on the break, we were very, very good and there was little they could do to stop us. But when they ran their offense, even if they missed they got back and set up and the game was much, much more even.

Pressure, depth, outlet passes, look to run, take the ball aggressively to the hoop, don't be soft when you get their and don't sweat the flop and charges. They will do both, a lot, but the game is called differently now. Be smart but remain aggressive.

It would be good for us to get an early season win against an NCAA at-large team here.

Also, don't just dismiss UNI losing to UC-Irvine like that's a **** team. Irvine was 24-10 last year, beat USC, thumped Rice, lost a 1 point game at San Diego State. Lost in the conference tourney final and then lost a tough game at Utah. They return 4 fourth, fifth or sixth year starters from last season, and are picked to win their conference again, which they will, barring injuries etc. They are a quality team that will beat a bunch of guys by 20+, even in Cedar Falls. Yes, this is a game we should win and win fairly easily, but you don't want to play UNI early in the season when they are likely to way ahead of you in how they want to play and execute.

                Mind-blowing fact of the day.

Ben Jacobson’s first season as UNI head coach was Mark’s last season at WSU (2006-07). BJ has been in Frostbite Falls that long.

I've got a buddy who thinks UNI is always thinks they're going to be an at large every year, and disagrees the fan base is completely delusional. This needs to be a complete beatdown from start to finish for my own sanity!

Predicting the score is difficult as UNI will want to play a much slower pace that us or our previous opponents. I still say we force them out of their game plan and make them play faster than they want

                    Wichita - 82

                    Frostbite Falls - 63

They will absolutely flop Ballard out of the game as much as they can.

To be fair, I think they had their once-every-4-years run in 2020 that Covid ruined. Might have been at-large that year, though losing on Friday in STL to a play-in team put that in great peril.

Obviously in today’s world, that plan does not seem to be sustainable anymore.
