What a shame. So young with a great future. South Florida made an excellent hire with him.

May he rest in peace and may his family, friends and team find peace.

Announcement from the USF athletics website:

Passed away from complications arising during a medical procedure he was undergoing at a Tampa hospital.

From his USF Bio: Married to Arianne Buchanan, he and his wife have two daughters, Laila and Lana, and a son, Aydin. Abdur-Rahim is one of 13 children born to Deborah Hester and William Abdur-Rahim and one of six brothers to play college basketball. His older brother, Shareef, was a 13-year NBA veteran and is now the President of the NBA’s G-League.

I really liked Amir. He was one of the few "flyers" I'd mentioned during our last coaching search that I wouldn't hate. Loved the way he and his teams approached the game. He seemed to be one of the genuinely good guys in college basketball and his loss will have a greater impact than many realize. The college game is lesser because of his loss and feel for his family, friends, and the USF community.

I recall him being a guy a lot of us wanted to go after once WSU let Isaac Brown go. I think last year was just the beginning for him. Such a shame.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

I'm really surprised we didn't land him all things considered....

                      Terribly sorry for his family.

Anybody know the procedure he was undergoing? I smell a bad anesthesiologist if this was outpatient.

*EDIT* Oh, I just saw that it was an "aggressive illness". I thought I read something else, earlier.
