    Mills (probably):

“We need to score more points than the other team, and right now it’s been a struggle. “

”The guys are practicing real hard and eventually it’ll show up during a game”

“Can you scan this QR code and donate to our snack fund? The boys are getting low on capri suns”

Nobody is calling in to apologize to Mills, that’s for sure.

A few takeaways from what I heard:
        1. He apologized to MK and to Bob Hull for missing the post-game interview. (No apology to the fans).
        2. Baker, yes that Ron Baker, came by practice on Monday. PM didn’t say exactly what he said other than he let the team (paraphrasing) know that giving up 91, 91, and 88 points wasn’t acceptable Shocker bball.
        3. CW played with a separated shoulder on Saturday. (Almost sounded like he probably should not have played, didn’t practice that week). Couldn’t shoot, but did a great job keeping rebounds alive etc., and it was a reason Joy played.

I would have loved to hear Ron talk the team.

Wait .. we decided to play a player that was injured enough that he couldn't shoot?

I was paraphrasing, Stick. You can listen to the show yourself and draw your own conclusions, which sounds like you already have. PM indicated that his shoulder was hurt and it bothered his shot as noticed with his first two shots. Perhaps I “overstated” it a tad, but again, listen to it and see what you think.

Eh, I've lost enough care that i don't think I want to spend anymore time listening to Mills's crap than i have to.

I wonder how big of a deal this is to guys. I mean, we all remember Ron quite well, and so we would hang on every word that he would say. I love Ron, though my wife would argue that she loves him more.

The current guys were in grade school when Ron played. And most of our team is not from this part of the country. So while they probably appreciate hearing from a former NBA guy, it isn't like Ron is at a LeBron/Durant/Steph status.

Though you could also make the case that they're surrounded by Ron and others every single day. Those guys are all over the walls and such. Records. Trophies. If they can't understand and respect that coming from a program legend then that says as much about them as anything else. Most guys have a great deal of respect for those that paved the way before them. He played alongside Fred who is still in the NBA and has made a name for himself. They should understand the accomplishments of that era even if they were middle school aged or so. Again, if not, they have little respect for the game as a whole and definitely not the program they're a part of.

Now that I type all of that out, with what they've shown us, I wouldn't be surprised if everything you said was correct.

I know the style of play will evolve over time. The way the game looked in the 80s and 90s is very different from now. I do understand the current style focuses heavily on three point shooting and drives to the basket, which can lead to seeing less of the snappy passing that I love. I can deal with the style changes, even if I don't like it, if the results are there. Last few games, I did like seeing a bit more passing and getting the ball into QB. The defense? Blech.

But another thing that gnaws at me that is different from ten years ago is the feeling of "me" being more important than "team" in how I perceive players. Blame it on the portal and NIL, blame it on society, blame it on whatever, but it seems that players are more interested in how they themselves do than how the team does. I don't know if that is accurate or even fair, but it is just the vibe I get. And not just with us, but all of college basketball right now. More about bag chasing than wanting to be part of building a championship team.

I remember elsewhere someone posted about a conversation they had with someone with more "inside knowledge" and how that person said there is concern about how the next negotiations for the NCAA March Madness contract will go, if interest falls off. I know it has fallen for me. I used to watch as much as I could that first weekend, jumping around to watch the ends of so many great finishes. Now I only watch if the game has a team I'm interested in involved. Even seeing the great finishes on highlights doesn't pique my interest like it used to. After 40+ years, it leaves me kind of melancholy and wistful that my interest has faded so much. I'm hoping baseball and softball this spring can get my black and gold blood flowing again.

Never missed a coaches show or post game interview when Marshall was coach. Now I never listen to them, for the last three yrs anyway.

I'm afraid some players have already checked out and decided to transfer. In that case, neither Ron nor anyone's motivational appearance/speech will matter. This is the problem with unfettered, unlimited transfers. Whenever things get tough then just transfer. What a soft generation.

Of the regular rotation only Corey Washington is guaranteed another year of college basketball. Perhaps Bosnjak as well if I've read recent developments around eligibility correctly.

The rest are finishing their collegiate careers as Shockers.
