  • In game 1 and the first half of tonight's game, FVV seemed tentative and somewhat overwhelmed. In the second half, he made a couple of plays, which showed off his ball handling skills. One play ended with a drive and bucket. In the warm-ups, I noticed his outside shots and free throw shots. He has a rainbow arch on the ball. The ball is in the high Sierras. In the second half, he passed up a wide open 11'-12' shot inside the circle. He has got to take that shot.

Early's shot is a little flat to suit me. I cannot determine, if it is his normal shot or he has the jitters and will settle down later. Cold was right. He did have a quiet 10 points.

I am not sure where we would be without Baker and Hall. Big trouble, I imagine.

I could have sworn Malcomb had more than one turnover. His 3 ball attempts (0/4) were not close. He is a strong dude and he has powerful wrists.

Like some of the posters above, I am not optimistic about the VCU game. I wish we were playing them later in the year.

We had a short stretch in the second half, where Baker, Cotton and Wessel knocked down five 3-balls. It cut the heart right out of the Eagles.

We all know VCU will throw a heavy dose of pressure. White will be a much better option for more minutes. Poised ball handlers will be key for the Shockers. Throw FVV in that category. We may see combinations that might not be customary. Whatever combinations we see, they better value the basketball. We can not fall into panic mode. Our players will be properly warned and prepared for VCU's pressure...they must execute.
Perfect. Throw EO into the fire. He might make some mistakes, but he'll come out of it a better player.

You don't think Wiggins will see much action then?

          • 1. Baker is pretty good. DW likely won't get his job back.
            2. Dunno what Cotton did to get yanked twice.
            3. Maybe FVV will grow on me. I just don't see what the big deal is.
            4. Lufile is very impressive, athletically.
            5. Wiggins was purtnear awful.
            6. Not a good night for Jake White, I think.
            7. Malcolm has to make some of those. Has to.

Agreed. I would look at it the same way as if we had played VCU at home in November last year. They were young and fresh at the beginning while we had the experience and know-how. In November last year, we would have wiped the floor with em with Shaka still avoiding a handshake all the way back to Virginia. Same situation this year. We're the young ones. They have more experience. They have the advantage. They are the favorites. If they don't win by 15+, then they may not be as good as advertised this year. We have no pressure at all in this one. Let the dice roll.

Well if you didn't happen to be paying attention to that area of CKA last evening, then I weep for your loss.

                  • The Shocks ability to deal with pressure needs to improve a lot if we don't want to get run out the VCU high school arena. Ball movement needs to improve; Evan, etc. can't take so long reacting to the double team.
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

It feels kind of odd to me...this is the first time in at least 2 seasons we'll be going into a game where I don't expect our team to win. 2 seasons. Maybe I didn't expect us to beat SDSU but we really needed that game, as opposed to this one. I don't know if I'll enjoy the feeling, but I am looking forward to it and to seeing how the guys react to what is certain to be an adverse situation.

Did you pay attention to Cotton getting yanked last night. I'm not sure why, but 3G doesn't care that I don't know. Trust me 3G won't just throw EO to the fire and let him make mistakes vs. VCU. I don't know where you get this notion. 3G wants to win, not feed SN's love affair for EO. Mistakes vs. VCU can't be recovered from. EO can make mistakes vs. NCC and WSU recover. With VCU's helter skelter style, quick, desisive and good decisions are required to be effective against them, which is not in EO's wheel house. I like your idea about throwing EO in the fire...let that happen against Howard.

I wasn't there last night, but from the pic he put on twitter I'm guessing that was Ri'an Holland's seat?

Sometimes you have to pull out your big chief tablet and crayons for us Shocker fans who weren't "paying attention."
