Let me add, UNLV is really good (even though the big kid Moser is out) and uber athletic. But UNI is hitting 3 after 3 to keep it to 20. They go cold for 5 minutes and this will be 75-39.

I hate the Valley.
Man, I thought we were bad at jacking up 3's. That seems to entirely be UNI's offense and the bad thing is, they don't even make a decent percentage of them. I don't think I've seen a lazier offense in America. Jacobsen is a good coach but his offensive schemes are just horrible.
You're definitely right. They were never a Top 100 team. Middle of the pack all the way.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

They are well coached, no doubt, but they aren't a top75 team, probably not a top 100 team. This won't be the last time they get blasted. They aren't going to be in anyone's discussion for an at large, because they aren't good enough, period, and they never were going to be. You can only trick somebody so often, afterwards, your talent, or lack thereof, is going to show through.

There's still a lot of season left to be played, but is SWOMO getting up there in the worst Valley team ever rankings? SWOMO is currently projected to go 1-27 (38% chance), 0-28 has a 30% chance. This is also using Sagarin rankings, not just straight RPI based. If you want go straight RPI based I'm sure they're projected to go 0-28.

UNI is the flagship school in the Moral Victory Conference. The preseason pick for #2 or #3 in the conference has the second worst RPI in the league and we're close to the end of OOC play.
MSU has been used as an example that hiring assistant coaches as your head coach and paying around $300K is a good strategy when hiring a coach. Their fans (and UNI's) get a bit testy this year when they are reminded of those statements made a few years ago.
The difference between what WSU pays a coach and what UNI and MSU pay is about a mill. A mill spread across 16 home games is $62.5K per game. Using even a paltry $20 per butt in the seats per game works out that 3,125 extra fans in the seats pays for the high dollar coach. The difference between going 20-10 or going 10-20 probably works out to more than 3,000 butts in seats for most Valley teams.
But, according to many Valley fans, we're the ones paying too much and they are the smart ones for getting what they're getting out of their low-budget coaches. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

As for MSU, not only is the athletic department broke, but they constantly complain about ticket prices. Keep in mind, this is the school that got a huge donation from JQH to build their arena, but even with that, they had to scale the project back. The plexiglass facade is where there should be the end zone of the upper bowl, plus, they still haven't built locker rooms. Not only do their fans ***** about ticket prices, but they don't donate. Then they expect their underpaid coaches to have Kentuckyesque success. There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

In any case, MSU's best shot a a win may be their MVC opener at home against SIU. SIU is no doubt much better with Barruh at the helm and Wyoming transfer Desmar Jackson appears to be the real deal. OTOH SIU has not beaten anyone to speak of. The are 6-2, which includes a win over Benedictine-Springfield (D-II I think). Their 5 D-1 wins have an average RPI of 293.4. That includes 2 wins over #341 New Orleans that was on the brink of dropping to D-II. They did play Western Kentucky tough on the road and probably should have won that game.
Bottom line is that I am not totally sold on SIU yet, although I don't think there is any doubt they are better than they were last year. Yes, MSU is horrible, but if they can control Jackon they just might steal there one and only D-1 win of the year over the Salukis. That said I am picking SIU in the Pick 'em Contest.Last edited by 1972Shocker; December 20, 2012, 02:19 PM.

If we are worse than 3-15 in the conference then Lusk will be shown the door. I have heard this from a source that has never steered me wrong in the past. She thinks that we will reach that mark and Lusk will come back. The $ is there to make a move if necessary despite all of this nonsense that you hear about us being broke. We have tons of boosters with deep pockets. And they are fed up. Supposedly Lusk has been informed of what he needs to do to remain at Missouri State.
I am rooting for us to fall below that mark of course. Heard that Scott Sutton and Dave Leitao have interest and would be on the short list. Anyhow we will just have to live through this abortion for another four months. The young talent is there in 2013-2014 for the right guy to come in and be successful. Get your laughs in now. While you can.

I'd be shocked if Sutton would take the HSU job. Talk about a step down from where he is. And it'd probably be a step down in pay.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

Sutton has often said it would take a "special situation" to make him consider leaving ORU. He reportedly turned down a $725,000 offer for the Bradley job in 2011,[4] and pulled out when he was believed to be the leading candidate at Wichita State in 2007[5] and at TCU in 2008.[6] In 2012, it was reported that Sutton interviewed with Colorado State,[7] Nebraska,[8] SMU[9] and Tulsa.[10] The Tulsa World reported on April 12, 2012, that Sutton earned a salary of approximately $483,000 based on ORU's 2010 IRS Form 990.[11]

Sutton was seen at JQH wearing an Oral Roberts polo. There were secret meetings held and Sutton left a sealed envelope that is only to be opened by Moats. There are very reliable sources that back this up.

The projections have the odds of SWOMO winning more than 2 games at <10%. The worst thing is that Sagarin might be generous to SWOMO, since it had Alabama A&M as a game SWOMO was predicted to win and not only did they lose, they lost double figures."Cotton scared me - I left him alone." - B4MSU (Bear Nation poster) in reference to heckling players

I also forgot to mention that Missouri State has boosters that are willing to spend big money. These are the same boosters that paid Barry less than $200,000, Cuonzo just over $300,000 and were committed to paying Cuonzo's replacement $650-$700,000. They hired Lusk for $350,000. It is the same group of boosters that allowed JQH to be scaled back with a plexiglass facade instead of a completed upper bowl, and have yet to complete the locker rooms.
Yeah, the MSU boosters will step up!There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.
