I'm watching Indiana State @ UCLA. The Trees are doing their best to muck it up but good. Trees led 14-11 at one point, and are still keeping it close trailing 25-21.
Missing all sorts of open shots. Getting homered a bit.

86-59 Final. Frankly, not that impressed with either team. Trees can't shoot but I do think Kitchell and Gant have improved a lot. Athleticism will give them fits. I still don't get the Odum love...he's fine I guess but if he's one of the 5 best players in the MVC then we (and other teams) have a lot of problems. Trees are probably a little better than I thought they'd be (and I thought they'd be awful) and UCLA is very average.

The lesson I took away from watching the Trees is that the Shockers better practice shooting freethrows before the matchup. Almost every time a UCLA guy beat his man going to the basket he got fouled and they ended up shooting 41 freethrows. Have to also remember for UCLA their top recruit is currently sitting during a NCAA investigation. I'm sure that took some of the energy out of them to start the game.

No doubt the Bruins and their fans were hoping Shabazz would be able to play. Indiana State plays the traditional MVC lack of talent so muck up the hell out of things and try to turn it into a grab and hold and foul slugfest in the 50s and pray to pull a rabbit out of a hat at the end game. It's what they have to do when they are as limited as they are talentwise.

UCLA is okay but I don't think they'd beat Creighton, for example.

Jake Odum was ready to play as a redshirt freshman, which earned him a lot of respect. But All-Valley?, I don't see it.

UCLA must of been confident they would look good against the Trees. They had 11 recruits in for the game.

I will probably draw the ire of SHOXMVC but I think Odum is a bit of a dirty player too. I have seen him deliver the extra hard foul or cheap shot away from the ball on more than one occasion. Probably no worse than Jamar Howard though, although everybody knew it about Jamar.

Hey, I don't give out "ire." I'm not even sure I know what it means...but if it will make crow taste better, give me a double. lol
