2024-25 men's NCAA basketball rankings: Way-Too-Early Top 25

Remember during the "Gilden Age" of men's basketball when these preseason rankings would come out and the weekly in-season rankings became available? Some of us would constantly refresh our browsers to get the very latest on where WSU landed and then argue how the "Media Hates" us. I could use some "Media Hate" right now. Well..any who, here is the first Ranking by ESPN:

Former Conference Mates
#1 - Houston
#10 - UConn
#22 - Cincinnati

Reviewing the other teams, I wouldn't be surprised (outside the ESPN Holiday Tournament in Florida) that we not get a shot at a Top 25 team the entire season.

"In the month since then, there hasn't been any movement inside the top 10 -- although Dan Hurley's flirtation with the Los Angeles Lakers nearly caused mass chaos throughout the sport. But with the final handful of impact transfers making decisions, as well as a few reclassifications, there continues to be movement in the back half of the top 25...."

Gonna put this here. Last 10 years, WSU is 43rd in average KenPom finish. Next closest current AAC member is Memphis at 62. Only other one currently in the AAC is UAB at 94.

Kinda surprising since the data is 2015-2024 so it doesn't include the final 4 year or the undefeated season.

The Other Top 25: Memphis begins year in top spot

"The Other Top 25 returns for the 2024-25 season, and the Memphis Tigers claimed the No. 1 spot in the preseason poll. The Tigers did not receive one first-place vote as five other teams split the six first-place votes.

Memphis barely edged Boise State by two points for the top spot. The Broncos received one first-place vote. VCU came in third, just four points behind Boise. Dayton and Saint Mary’s each received one first-place vote and rounded out the top five...."

1. Memphis
Memphis claimed the No. 1 spot in the preseason Other Top 25 after experiencing incredible highs and lows during the 2023-24 season. Penny Hardaway’s team started 15-2 with wins over Missouri, Michigan, Arkansas, VCU, Texas A&M, Clemson, Virginia and Vanderbilt in the non-conference on its way to No. 10 in the AP Top 25. From that point, Memphis finished 7-8 and bowed out in its first American Athletic Conference tournament game....

11. UAB
UAB enters its second season in the American as the preseason favorite. The Blazers won the conference tournament to punch their second trip to the NCAA Tournament in the four years of Andy Kennedy’s tenure....

13. Saint Louis (1)
Saint Louis received the sixth and final first-place vote. The Billikens bring in a fresh look with Josh Schertz as head coach. He led Indiana State to the NIT championship game last season SLU is coming off a disappointing 13-20 season. It was their first season below .500 in seven years....

23. North Texas
Following winning the 2023 NIT championship, North Texas went 19-15 last season. Ross Hodge enters year two and will have plenty of new faces as the top six scorers from last season are gone. The roster features seven transfers...
