    Go Shockers - Shockers Hold Wheaties Awards for Student-Athletes

    Wichita State held its 11th-annual awards ceremony (rebranded to The Wheaties) for student-athletes on Monday night, recognizing student-athletes from all 15 varsity sports teams for their outstanding achievements on the playing field and court and in the classroom over the past 12 months.

    Here is a list of the 2023-24 award winners:

    Male and Female Newcomer of the Year: This award is for a male and female newcomer student-athlete that has made a significant athletic impact to their program, garnered individual accolades, and has achieved exceptional athletic success.

    >>> Mauricio Millan, Baseball
    >>> Alex Aguilar, Softball

    Male and Female Breakthrough Athlete of the Year Award: The Breakthrough Athlete of the Year Award is presented to a male and female student-athlete that demonstrated dramatic improvement from their previous season of competition and significantly contributed to individual or team success.

    >>> Quincy Ballard, Men's Basketball
    >>> Morgan Stout, Volleyball

    Male and Female Iron Shocker Awards: This award is presented to student-athletes that display exceptional commitment to strength and conditioning.

    >>> Josh Livingston, Baseball
    >>> CC Wong, Softball

    Impact Wuwards: The Impact Award is selected by student-athletes from each team and is a member of each team that has been a leader and made a positive and lasting impact.

    >>> Tommy LaPour, Baseball
    >>> Dalen Ridgnal, Men's Basketball
    >>> Ella Anciaux, Women's Basketball
    >>> Jackson Caldwell, Men's Cross Country
    >>> Lucas Scheufler, Men's Golf
    >>> Madison Slayton, Women's Golf
    >>> Madyson Espinosa, Softball
    >>> Misha Kvantaliani, Men's Tennis
    >>> Natsumi Kurahaski, Women's Tennis
    >>> Tanner Brown, Men's Track and Field
    >>> Audrey Parson, Women's Cross Country and Track and Field
    >>> Katie Galligan, Volleyball

    Inspiration Wuwards: The Inspiration Award is selected by student-athletes and is awarded to a coach, administrator or support staff member who continually inspires student-athletes through their story, their actions and their words.

    >>> Gretchen Torline, Men's Basketball
    >>> Erica Yancey, Women's Basketball
    >>> Adam Moore, Men's Cross Country
    >>> Kirk Hunter, Women's Cross Country

    >>> Elizabeth Economon, Softball
    >>> Connor Barnard, Men's Tennis

    Shocker Spirit Award: Shocker Spirit is presented to a student-athlete who consistently demonstrates exceptional character, true sportsmanship, and absolute resilience. Their energy and effort translate to the classroom and through their everyday actions they show a special commitment to our athletic department.

    >>> Madyson Espinosa, Softball

    Male and Female Athlete of the Year Award: This award is for a male and female student-athlete that receives the highest athletic honors and achieves exceptional athletic success.

    >>> Brady Palen, Men's Track and Field
    >>> Destiny Masters, Women's Track and Field

    Comeback Athlete of the Year: The Comeback Athlete of the Year is presented to a student-athlete who has been faced with adversity, but has shown extraordinary strength to persevere and overcome their obstacles.

    >>> Bailey Urban, Softball

    Scholar-Athlete of the Year: The Scholar-Athlete Award is presented to a student-athlete who excels above the rest in regards to academic success and athletic performance.

    >>> Addison Barnard, Softball

    Moment of the Year Award: This award is for the most memorable or special moment from the 2023 Gold Carpet Awards to this year's WHEATIES Awards.

    >>> Destiny Masters, 2024 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship

    Men's and Women's Team of the Year: The Team of the Year award is presented to the team that has achieved the most notable success throughout its season and inspired the Shocker family through hard work, teamwork, and awe-inspiring performances.

    >>> Men's Track and Field
    >>> Softball

    Best Dressed at the Award Show: Voted on by student-athletes the night of the event.

    >>> Caleb Anderson, Baseball

    Male and Female Heart of a Shocker Award: The Heart of a Shocker Award is presented to a male and female student-athlete in their final season of eligibility who epitomizes what it means to be a Shocker. Throughout their tenure at WSU, this individual has excelled in every area of student-athlete life while simultaneously demonstrating impeccable character and integrity.

    >>> Addison Barnard, Softball

    Shocker Legacy Award: The Legacy Award is presented to a individual who has been a major contributor to Shocker Athletics and continues to positively represent the Shocker family in his/her life.

    This involves all sports, but might as well just put it here.

    This kids clean up pretty nicely. Check of the photo gallery.

    If you go down about 32 rows you will find a photo on the right side of 3-row set of some of the softball players. From right to left it looks like CC, Chloe, Madyson, Taylor (I think) and Lainee. Between Chloe's leverage due to her height and those guns you have a pretty good idea where those 70 mph fastballs come from.

    I wasn't able to copy and paste the photo.

      Why is Millan considered a Newcomer this year?

      Was Ballard out of town and not able to attend?
