  • Joe Mitchell walked because he was not on scholarship

Joe thinks Marshall promised a scholie, when Marshall said there might be one there in the third year, Nick Rodgers style. Joe saw that wasn't going to happen and is transferring. Wouldn't he have to transfer down like AJ Hawkins did?

If that's the case, we should be seeing him at Missouri State pretty soon, right? :)

Lol. I think either friends or Newman. However, Emporia and southwestern are not all that far away.

To bad things didn't work out for Joe at Ohio. He may have been a little quick to pull out of that situation. We have no idea exactly what was promised or not proimised to Joe when he transferred to WSU as a walk-on, but I would be surprised if anything there were firm promises of anything other than an opporutnity to earn PT and/or a scholarship.

Do the transfer sit-out rules apply to walk-ons who transfer? Maybe he could transfer to a D-1 school to finish his last 3 semesters of eligibility. Not sure how much eligibility he would have left if he transfered to a D-2 school. Does the 5 years to play 4 rule still apply?

I am pretty sure it all applies, especially since he backed out of a commitment. He had two years at hutch, one RS year at WSU, so if he wants to play, he has to either go down a level or give up a year.

Why would a guy not just stick it out and do everything he can to make it? Kyles sort of did that and he was a really important key reserve when he finished. If its all about playing time I feel like joe is giving up to soon. Maybe our new guys really are that good. I guess if you didn't think you had a shot at earning a scholarship, it makes a little bit of sense. I always thought joe was gonna contribute... It's really too bad

seriously? To a lot of folks, the phrase, "play basketball", means to play.

But of course, Kyles was always on scholarship. That, more than playing time, seems to be Joe's issue.

Yeah I'm just thinking its always possible that he could earn pt and that scholarship if he gave it his all.

The current roster has 15 players. We know Bush is a walk-on. Any idea who else is paying their way this year? Is Coleby paying his way during this transfer year?

Tells you how far the program has come (or how far HCGM has brought it). Joe woulda been on scholly and maybe even starting when HCGM arrived. Best of luck to Joe no matter where he ends up. Of course having a JUCO AA as a walk on and 6th on your guard depth chart would have been nice.

Obscure rule says that if you have been enrolled in 2 different NCAA schools, if you go to a third NCAA school, whether D-1 or D-2, you lose a year. Thinking that Newman will try some kind of appeal, but not optomistic. NAIA would be an option, though.
