Iowa was loud, no doubt about it. For one thing, the fire marshal turned a blind eye that day. Minimum 11k in attendance. People in the aisles all over the place and packed. But it was a different loud.

At half, I stood up to stretch, looked around and saw that I was in the WRONG SECTION....after 18 or so home games! Joined him for second half, but don't remember moving down....
I DO remember Randy falling down backwards after he made his free throw and Lute calling a TO he didn't have, due to the noise:)
Do you remember who played the second game?

Funny story....you may have forgotten that I had season tickets that year because of the generosity of our good friend's dad, so he would have someone to sit with at games...that day was a Sunday, and I got to the arena late(a couple minutes) and when I got to my seat, he wasn't there! I thought "WHERE IS HE???NO WAY he's missing this game!"

6 time out Lute was born that day.
So many men in attendance wearing coat and ties. Probably somewhat due to the day of the game but still, different times. I'm not sure but I doubt you would see a college coach NOT in a coat and tie in 1981. At least not very many.
Randy willed that FT into the basket. Unforgettable moment.
The bands (Iowa's band was also in attendance and I have no idea how they could breathe much less play considering the space they occupied) absolutely played during play. An unbelievable home court advantage that day. I'm sure Lute was unhappy on a variety of levels.
There was a sad/funny moment in that game where (I may have it backwards) Cliff fell and AC landed his foot directly on Cliff's nether region...AC tried to console Cliff but also was imploring him not to grab his unit on national tv. Cliff was not complying. Understandable given the situation.
Definitely Arizona State and the Beakers. I sat next to some ASU fans that were incredulous over the poor play of Sun Devil center Alton Lister. That was a somewhat talented starting 5 for ASU.
Byron Scott 4th overall pick NBA Draft 1983
Fat Lever 11th overall pick NBA Draft 1982
Alton Lister 21st overall pick NBA Draft 1981
Johnny Nash 108th overall pick NBA Draft 1981
Sam Williams 33rd overall pick NBA Draft 1981
I challenge ANYONE to name either of the 2 ASU head men's basketball coaches that coached these players.
Can't look it up.
