There was a guy who sat behind the goal (I think it was the south goal but IDK) on the aisle, next to the tunnel. He was a dancing fool during the timeouts of early Wings games, often times removing his sweatshirt or sweater to swing as a prop, mostly when they played Cotton Eye Joe.

That was you, wasn't it, 'Cold?

I'd bet even money that guy posts on Shockernet.

Wasn't he banging on something too? A drum perhaps? I remember him.

Wings and Shockers in the early 80's, Thunder in the early 90's. Some pretty high-level, national entertainment in the ICT.

Pizza Hut, then Boeing leaving this town was kind of the death blow. Had we got the Panasonic factory it would have changed this town's fortunes. But of course that didn't happen. Wichita has been in a solid bear market since the late 80's. Maybe we're due?

Oh, you're talking about THUNDER games. The big fat guy who would take his shirt off during Cotton Eye Joe. Yeah... Thunder games were a trailer park **** show. It was always so funny going to a Thunder game on Friday and Shocker game on Saturday and observing the fanbase demographic change. Completely different worlds.

But there was a mad fool at the Wings games, running around beating on a drum and acting completely psychotic.

No, not Krazy George. KG would make appearances every once in awhile and wander all over the place (yes, he usually had a drum).

WuDrWu is talking about a season ticket holder that was always there. They started calling him Captain-something maybe? Captain Chaos maybe?

Well there was definitely a fat dude at Thunder games in the late 90's that would take his shirt off and swing it around when Cotton Eye Joe was played during intermission. He was up high and to the right of the Zamboni exit side.

I love when people are right and get what I'm saying.

LOVED Krazy George, but that's not who I was talking about (as you said).

My guy was just a fan, but developed a following after killing a couple timeout Cotton Eye Joe dances (I wonder what version of CEJ they played back then), then later would wait until the crowd called on him to get after it. Definitely not Thunder, total Wings guy.

Still think it could have been 'Cold, and certainly a Shockernetter.

I used to have season tickets next to a guy with a sweet late 70s orange satin letter type Wings jacket, with his moniker "Chewy" stitched into the chest (cursive if I remember correctly). Man, that jacket got a WORKOUT. EVERY single game.

Also will never forget the Security officer (female) splitting her slacks from waist to ankle running down the stairs to intervene in a fight between fans and either Don Ebert or Steve Pecher in the sin den about 10 rows in front of me.

Steve Zungul discussing with his coach whether or not to go to Carlos and Wong's for dinner after the game....good times.

It's funny what you remember (Frank Regan).

By the way, speaking of the Wind, there was NO better entrance music than the playoff Wind coming out of the tunnel for period 3 to the first 25 seconds of Christopher Cross' Ride Like the Wind.....you were lying if you said that didn't get you lit.

Andy Moog leading the way. I can't prove it, but I swear Grant Fuhr rehabbed here a game or 2.

Also, Steve Janazek (Gold Medal 1980 behind Jim Craig) played here briefly.

Walt Padubbney, Brad Knelson, Owen Lloyd, Andy Moog, Tom Roulston, Paul Messier (Mark's brother), Curt Brackenberry....man those were the days.

Can you imagine how old he looks today at 79? Because he looked 60 when he was in his mid 30s.

That guy was part of a bidding war going around the NFL in the late 70s....how was he doing Wing games? And not just one....not the way we all remember.

Also, we definitely didn't "get" the wave.....which at the Britt Brown Arena (RIP Mr. Brown) was never more than a section by section wave. Kansans simply couldn't get it....and it annoyed the frack out of me at the time.

There was one guy, ONE, that drove the Zamboni for YEARS at Wind/Thunder games. Probably the only guy licensed in the state. If you told me that guy was BTK or some other serial murderer, I'd believe you right off. Finally they got a younger guy that drove the 2nd Zamboni (Bud Light sponsored perhaps?). I loved my first row tickets back then....

                            No time for that ...

                            Kung Wu makes an appearance!!

Edit: Awww, it won't use the timestamp. 8:49 as the players are walking off the field to drink from the Chalice of Victory ... I am walking off with them.

Edit, edit: The very next sequence is the Pecher eviction. I am in a wide striped shirt in the players box across the field.

What makes more sense. Another remodel of Koch Arena are a totally new arena?

I find a lot of really good and interesting ideas put forth on this thread. The big question what are the prospects for and odds of Wichita State and its fan base to make these things a reality? How do we move from the idea stage to realistic prospects for getting these major improvements, keeping in mind the Cessna Stadium remake is in motion and already hitting some speed bumps and the plans from big improvements for softball facilities are also in the mix.

All at a time when fan support and enthusiasm is trending down and the WSU-ICAA is not in a good place financially. From my perspective we need a big White Swan event to turn this around.
