I suppose if you are rounding. Actually they set a record for all sports at 3.53 (for this fall semester) and that is something to be proud of. Not sure it would pull in an additional $4.6 million though. Maybe if we can get that up to 3.75.

As for the rest of your post, there's next to zero chance he doesn't get at least one more season.

At this point I certainly would not bet against you on that assessment. I'm thinking he's gone at the end of next season if we don't see a significant turn around next year which seems pretty unlikely at this point. Wait any longer and it may become a totally moot issue.

Didn't realize that Mills bio on the WSU basketball site has not been updated from when he was hired. It says nothing about his 23-24 season with WSU even near the bottom when it lists his year-by-year record as a head coach.

I hate to break it to you fine folks (again) but... it ain't as much about the X's and the O's as it is about the Jimmies and the Joes.

Gregg Marshall was reviled on this fine forum for his lack of time-out calls and his NCAA record for fails on set plays.

Without Fred, Ron, Tekele, and Cle', his body of work would look quite different at WSU. Tekele's defense alone put fear into the hearts of our opponents' leading scorers.

Some of the winningest bball programs in the country remain as such regardless of who's at the helm. As long as the flow of NBA players continue, so will the wins.

Mills may not be the best coach on earth and/or he still has some things to learn, but he's no incompetent asshole. You can just listen to him talk to know he has a bit of knowledge about the game. So.... as long as he can recruit, he's going to be fine - to a point.

Mills needs to find his FVV. We'll see if he can find him before he gets canned. He needs to find his Tekele also regardless of what his past team defensive statistics would indicate he signs. You NEED some floor-slappin' stoppers at this level of the game. We've got one down low.

I do not envy a man trying to follow up one of the golden eras of Shocker basketball. A time when we EXPECTED to be top-25 every year. He's trying to do that with an empty gym, Pay-to-play bullshit, and a generation of kids who were breast-fed through high school.

Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I do not believe we could afford it and/or pay for the type of hire that it would take to turn the program around. Too much on the books now. He would have to be willing to take a good size cut from what his WSU contract obligations would be. Some BIG money fans would be needed (a lot).

What we have on the books now is covered. However, as of 06/30/24 we only had net reserves of about $1.4 over and above those current obligations on the books. Therefore without additional booster help we might have enough to cover 1 year of Mills salary and whatever we would pay a new coach would be out of ongoing revenues which may or may not allow for a big dollar higher. Starting running annual deficits again like we did in FY23 and all bets are off.

Could be we need to evaluate the whole big picture of WSU athletics moving forward and make any decisions on what looks to be the most sensible pathway which may lead to scaled down expectations and WSU's place in the college athletic world. What makes this so difficult is the turmoil currently shaking the foundations of college athletics.
