Isaac Brown year 1. Won the AAC. Yes, we got lucky a few games. I recall a few key games were cancelled when the opposing team tested positive for covid, allowing us to maintain our lead in the conference. That said, every team in the league was playing by the same rules, and we still won. Shot craps in the postseason, though.
Year 2. Decent start, then started falling apart. Year ended bad. No sign of player development or growth.
Year 3. Started terrible. Around midway through the season, though, there were signs of improvement. This is based on the eye test, and more specifically, my eyes. I think this was probably the first Isaac Brown team that ended the season looking better than it started the season. Given this, I think there was at least some argument for giving him a year 4, especially given the buyout clause in his contract.
Given the prompt in your question - that I have the gift of seeing into the future and know that Mills will be the next coach and how the first two years of his tenure will go - I hold onto Brown one more year and see how it will go, with the added benefit of it being much cheaper to fire him at the end of his fourth year.Last edited by rjl; 3 days ago.The truth will set you free. There was even tangible improvement by the end of that season that gave a little hope. He wasn't likely going to be the long term savior but sure felt like the right choice was to wait until the buyout lowered.
Was IB the longterm answer? Probs not....Was the JOE PLEASANT over RCIV a wise look...again, probs not...but there WAS improvement BUT Saal obviously wanted to make his own splashy hire with....Paul Mills?

I just watched Coach Mills press conference in which he discussed the loss to UMKC and the upcoming game against KSU. I get that he is not popular due to his laidback demeanor and aw shucks way of speaking but he talked about entitled athletes and I think that also applies to us fans.
Coach Mills does a whole lot correctly. He deserves credit for quality out of bounds and the set plays that the team runs. We do have some good players. I hope that they continue to improve during conference play and the injured guys get back into it. I suspect that we will have around 4 conference losses and be in contention for the NIT.
Anyway, Happy Holidays to everyone and I certainly hope for a joyful conference season.
