Coach Mills has to bear a good part of the blame for the recruiting being a bust. However, I am not very confident that he, or anyone else, can recruit at a high enough level at Wichita State to win with the system Mills seems intent on running. One that relies a lot on superior athletes winning one-on-one battles that results in more of an individual oriented style then a team oriented style (and the lack of assists bear that out). Personally, I still think team basketball is the best kind of basketball and a more entertaining style of basketball. At least it is for me. Add to the the seeming disinterest in tough defense (which has long been a hallmark of Shocker basketball) and the tendency of this team not to value the basketball and you have stew that a great number of Shocker fans do not find very tasty.

This is all magnified by the importance of Men's Basketball to the overall financial program and the weak financial position the program currently finds itself. We simply cannot afford to have MBB struggle like it is and we are pretty much stuck with Coach Mills for at least 2 more years, maybe longer, absent a shower of manna from heaven.

I would love to be more optimistic but I am just not seeing or sensing anything to hang my hat on. That said i really hope you are proven to be right.

He definitely has shown a lot to be optimistic about.

      • I am not happy about this season but at least am patient enough to see what happens this offseason. Good or bad, I think this offseason will be more indicative of HCPM’s plan going forward. I have talked to people who seem to think that the right coaching is in place but just that the talent needs vastly upgraded and HCPM knows it. Obviously, it’s the coaching that brings in that talent, but I’ll give a small pass due to some issues which should be better this offseason thaN In Last offseason.

          • KS ****** up big time. He got rid of a coach who showed he deserved another year, according to most on this forum, and also accomplished a feat with GGG's players that GGG couldn't accomplish with GGG's players (the ones that weren't ran off that is). The decision was obviously made months before the season ended and took no flexibility into account (what an idiot); Some of the wrong people got into his ear and he wasn't man enough to step up and take charge and do his job drawing and saving $$$ and helping the coach succeed. The d*****t blamed the coach instead of supporting him, for one more god***n year. This mess is hardly HCIB's doing. The true instigators remain along with the ashes.

The good news is WSU now has a coach who looks better on the sidelines and comes of really smart on the Monday Coaches show. Yay. Let's just hope HCPM doesn't start stuttering and sweating like Scott Thompson trying to explain why his team lost another game on the post game show. It seems like it was just yesterday.

            • The ultimate measure of a good coach is whether his team plays hard, over performs and wins more games than expected. They generally win the games they should win and a few close unexpected ones. Only one year but I'd say this season has been one of under performance.........thus far. Team doesn't even seem to be playing all that hard.

I sense your being facetious but's that's okay. I'd add to my post that within a couple years we at least sniff an NIT, if not, the big dance. Right now, I don't see it.

                      No. No you're not.

                      What makes you think that?

IB was not the answer. Sorry.

                          • IB wasn't the answer, but neither was firing him 1 year before his buyout dropped, while strapped for cash ... without a home run hire lined up. Its not that he fired IB .. its that he did it without a plan. I've liked a LOT of what ADKS has done .. but this was his biggest responsibility and he dropped the ball.

I think he had a plan, but I think his plan failed and he had to settle.
