  • Doug McDermott vs Colt Ryan

Take a hard look at these stats, which are last season's percentages and totals. Compare the National POY candidate's numbers with Colt Ryan's. When I look at the blocks columns I have to LOL.

    Doug has:

    2 times as many rebounds
1.5 times as many field goals

    Colt has:

1.4 times as many freebies (SICK)
    3 times as many assists
2 times as many blocks (LOL)
    8 times as many steals

I'm no fan of Evansville, but what Ryan is doing is pretty darn impressive if stats were the only indicator. I don't know squat about Evansville's history, is he the best player ever there?

Little Chewy is so good offensively, and so bad defensively it's hard to believe he isn't 2 players.

Personally, discussion of him as a POY candidate is laughable.

I really like Colt and the whole UE situation. They are a team that I think is long overdue for a good season, and I really hope they don't disappoint this year. When I look at the stats, it reminds me of the things that I don't like about McD. He is fantastic offensively, but he has been so one sided. Having read that article about how great CU is projected to be this year, it just annoys me. I see Colt Ryan over there carrying a program that I am almost pulling for with his well rounded versatile stats, and I have to respect it...not to mention the respect I have for Marty Simmons.

I see McD playing for his dad and getting an entire system drawn up for him to finish most sets, while not being forced to play defense or go to the bench. His blocks stats for last season are funny. I pulled up the season stat sheet, and he finished the year, playing like 1100 minutes at PF in general, with a total of 3 blocks. Oh well...He will get there defensively, I know. I'm sure the McDermotts are nice guys so I shouldn't say stuff, but doesn't it just look like high school when a parent coach lets their kid be the star. Oh, and all this talk about him 'not leaving the team for the NBA' and staying for another season? If Garrett can't make the NBA because of his minor weaknesses, does anyone think McD is ready? Come on.

Great work Colt Ryan. I hope the rest of the Valley is strong this year and schools like Evansville and Indiana State give WSU, CU, UNI, ISUr a run for their money.

Why are they overdue for a good season? Look, the Evansville kids seem like nice kids and all and I am sure they brush their teeth every night and say their prayers and I know they work hard and thank God each and every day for their God given abilities, but this is a dog eat dog world and the Aces are wearing Milk Bone underwear in the Valley. They are overdue to take 50 point beatings night in and night out if you ask me. They lost a lot more than people realize last year, and personally I don't see them in the top half of the league. And they could be horrible in 13-14.

The sad truth is I think I have a soft spot for them because they have sucked for so long. Thank you for reminding me to man up and be a freaking shocker fan. The 50 point beatings are a lot more fun. Maybe what I really want is for them to do what they always do and suck, but manage to beat the right teams other than us to help our RPI when we destroy them. Thats what I really want.

I'm still laughing about this. Love it.

the MVC is in BIG trouble. My favorite part of that page is where it says "Plus, he really wants to be good at basketball" That's really sweet.

I should have said they were wearing Milk Bone shirt sleeves....could have been better.

                      Jerry Sloan was pretty salty.
Amassing 15.5 points per contest, Sloan was the leading scorer for the Purple Aces in each of his three seasons as a starter. He led Evansville twice to the NCAA College Division Championship (now known as the Division II Championship), which included a perfect 29-0 season in 1965,[7] and was voted a first team Little All-America along with teammate Larry Humes during his senior season.

A physician called into a radio show and said:

First Team All-American vs a garbage scorer? Puhhhhlease. Ryan automatically loses against anyone strictly for being from EU. Sorry's.
