Stern also asked Jim Rome "If he still beats his wife" when asked in a interview if the NBA Draft lottery system is rigged.

I didn't know all that about Stern. I guess I kinda remember the Chris Paul thing. Weird...

That's awesome about Murry. At least I assume so. I am pretty uneducated about the other options that an undrafted guy can have. What does that mean for him at this point?

He was asking that as an example of a loaded question (because either way yo answer it, you incriminate yourself). He was basically telling Rome that's what he was trying to get him to do.

The Summer League is a place for new draft picks and young guys on NBA teams to play together and work on things in basically organized scrimmages. Toure' has been invited to play for the Lakers team, so he will be there on a try-out basis, and if he impresses they might keep him on with their D-League team. They have a lot of the Summer League games on NBA TV, so I'm guessing we will get a chance to watch him a few times this summer. This is a great opportunity for him and here's to hoping he succeeds!

Stutz was just too damn slow. I was checking on the draft all evening and even got a few butterflies. It was almost like waiting for our seed in the Big D. I really wanted the big fella to get drafted. I was hoping he really went nuts in the tryouts. I can't believe they drafted a white 210lb Croatian 7 footer over our skilled, big center. A 7 foot bean pole is the epitome of a project. You're telling me that Stutz is behind that guy? F!

Cold, he's not behind them, and the NBA teams that passed on him don't think he's behind them either. BUT, it's cheaper and simpler to have these 2nd round "draft and stash" Euro projects. It's like a free D league that you don't have to worry about anyone else cherry picking.

Garrett will get more than his fair share of opportunities to make an NBA roster this summer.

There is always a reason why at the end of the draft it's filled with a ton of no name Euro's. And you have a bunch of guys who are big time college players not get drafted, especially underclassmen who declare.

The good Doc did a good job of explaining it. The GM's do this to lock up the Euro projects, get them to the USA, and they have them locked into their team. Then they'll do their best to sign and develop free agents.

I'd be surprised if GS didn't get a good look from the Nets, Celtics, or Spurs.

Yeah, I did notice that the announcers kept saying a lot of euros were starting to get picked even though several good options were still out there from the college game. They specifically mentioned one of the Alabama guys, the Georgetown center, and tu holloway. Oh well. Maybe in the next couple weeks we will find out some good news in addition to toures thing.
So is it like even if a guy doesn't get drafted, but he does get a summer league invite, he still has the opportunity to beat some people out and maybe make the team (developmental or actual team)? To me that sounds just about as good as getting a late pick, just with less public affirmation.

And since the Euro players are generally stashed in Europe for a couple years, while they may have been drafted, they are not actually competing for a roster spot immediately, and since later draft picks aren't guaranteed a roster spot anyway (meaning that even if Toure' and Garrett had been drafted over the Euro players, they still would have been in the same position of having to compete for a chance at a roster), those foreign players being drafted doesn't actually do much to negatively change the odds of guys like Toure' and Garrett when they compete for a roster.

Also, someone can correct me, but all 2nd round picks have no guaranteed money.

Kai: you think the Celtics would still invite stutz after they drafted sully and melo? And 7 ft euro picks are essentially throw away picks. Most dont even make it over to the US and if they do it takes a couple years. Sucks, because seeing Garrett get called woulda be pretty cool and it woulda been some nice pub for the dub.
