    Something new to ***** about!

Why is the MVC able and willing to host Men's Basketball NCAA 2nd/3rd rounds at Sprint Center in Kansas City but we can't get the MVC tournament moved there (even just occasionally)?

Perhaps it's another ploy that Elgin is using to get STL to pony up and give the Valley a better deal. Word is that KC is more serious about hosting the MVC than they were a few years back. There's also the slight possibility that with all the conference realignment that Elgin might actually be trying to throw CU and WSU a bone and make us happy and may really be considering rotating or moving the tournament to KC. I don't think it's any secret that neither CU or WSU are completely happy with the Valley right now. If the MVC loses one or both the MVC easily falls out of the Top 10 conferences. Elgin can't afford to let that happen. Perhaps there may be enough power/influence in the West right now to pull off a move to KC, even if it is on a rotational basis.

And the argument could be made that it's closer to the 5 western schools than STL is. And if moved to KC, nobody would have to travel as far as WSU and CU do to STL every year.

It might be time to fire up a petition between the WSU and CU fans and put real pressure on the MVC to at least move it every other year.

Without an anchor tenant from the NBA or NHL I am sure the Sprint Center is trying to lure as many events to KC as possible. If Elgin can't make a lucrative deal for the MVC in KC he is just not trying. I would also wonder since the Sprint Center is in Missouri and the BIG XII no longer has a Div I team in the state allows the MVC to sneak in as host conference because of MS State.

I thought a school generally was the host of the first couple of rounds not a conference.

Notice UT (Texas) is hosting... maybe that threw the Big XII out of KC for 2013?

Second and third rounds (March 21/23) and (22/24)
The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, Michigan (Host: Oakland University)
Rupp Arena, Lexington, Kentucky (Host: University of Kentucky)
EnergySolutions Arena, Salt Lake City, Utah (Host: University of Utah)
HP Pavilion, San Jose, California (Host: West Coast Conference)
University of Dayton Arena, Dayton, Ohio (Host: University of Dayton)
Frank Erwin Center, Austin, Texas (Host: University of Texas at Austin)
Sprint Center, Kansas City, Missouri (Host: Missouri Valley Conference)
Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Host: Temple University)

Oh, it looks like the Big XII is hosting the South Regional at Cowboys Stadium:

Regional sites (March 28/30) and (29/31)
East Regional, Verizon Center, Washington, DC (Host: Georgetown University)
West Regional, Staples Center, Los Angeles, California (Host: Pepperdine University)
Midwest Regional, Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana (Hosts: Butler University, IUPUI, Horizon League)
South Regional, Cowboys Stadium, Arlington, Texas (Host: Big 12 Conference)

I wonder, if and when we host at Intrust, if WSU will host or if it will be the Valley?

Just a little forewarning, if it is indeed the Valley, I will wave everyone here a fond adieu to this world.......

As I understand it, conferences will host the games so that the "local school" still has a chance at participating there. For example, if IBA hosts the 2nd/3rd rounds, and the MVC is the "host" then WSU could be allowed to play there. If WSU was the "host" then it would not be allowed by the NCAA. It's all very weird.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I don't think we'd be allowed to play at IBA anyway. When we do play there, it's apparently considered a home game and that wouldn't fly for postseason.

There are many in KC who believe and justifiably so, that the worst thing that could happen to the Sprint Center would be to land an anchor tenant (NBA or NHL franchise). The Sprint Center has been since it's opening hugely successful; in fact, one of the most successful arenas in the U.S., precisely because it has so many prime dates for concerts and other events.

The B12 just committed to several consecutive years of BB tourneys in KC and views the tourney in KC as one of their crown jewels. It would be incredible if the Sprint Center could pull off back to back tourneys with the B12 and MVC. Even more so, if they followed those up with regional tourneys. Can you imagine a solid month of NCAA post season basketball? What an incredible party atmosphere. Whether that would be possible logistically and whether the B12 would be agreeable to that is another thing altogether, but that would be beyond cool...

BTW, there has also been talk of KC potentially hosting the SEC BB tourney sometime down the road on a part-time basis, so this is not far-fetched at all...

With the closest MVC schools 160 miles or so away from KC, isn't this odd? Why isn't UMKC the host?
