Perhaps. But I doubt we see much of Early at the 4. Especially if Lufile gets here. White will be seeing PT this season. And Early will spend more time at the 3 where he belongs.

If I had to give a 10 man rotation with only two at each spot

    PG - Armstead/Cotton
    SG - Williams/Baker
    SF - Early/Wiggins
    PF - Hall/White
    C - Ehimen/Lufile

You could switch Hall and Lufile if it makes you happy.

    • I don't know about Cotton as a PG yet. Man I would love that, though. Is that his true position? I remember him being way ahead of his time on defense and steals as a freshman, but we didn't get to see too much of him bringing the ball up. If he is good enough at that to put DWill as our starting 2, with less of a need to play the point, that would be nice. Maybe we will see some creative redshirting (like they talked about for like 2 minutes about Aaron Ellis before his senior year) if we find out that some of our new guys are a tiny bit more ready than last years recruiting class. As in, maybe one of our new jucos has to take a redshirt or maybe Cotton takes a redshirt to let Van Vleet jump right in. Or on the other hand, maybe our superstar recruit PG actually has to redshirt. That would be pretty cool for the next four years of our program :)

If I remember correctly, I think coach has said that they view Cotton primarily as a 2 (but one that could slide to the 1 if need be). I too had considered whether Cotton might redshirt, not because he is not already a good player, but because there is a logjam at guard. That would put Van Vleet, Baker, and Cotton all in the same class, which would mean we wouldn't look too shabby at guard for at least 4 years.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Randall Vautravers will never be a starter or finisher.

Unless, by finisher, you count being subbed in within the last 2 minutes of gameplay when we are up by 20 or more.

That would be finishing.... I don't expect either of those three to be finishing a close game

                .
I disagree with your definition. This finishers are the guys who gave you the 20 point lead with 2 minutes to go. Who finishes off a win regarless of when that finish occurs. That is what I believe finishing is. Not who is in during mop up time. This is not necessarily limited to 5 players.

                    • I just want to remind everyone that my comment about Vautravers was a joke. None of us asserted that he was a closer or a finisher or an anything other than part of the mop up crew and scout team. I was making a joke that we always win the games that he plays in so he must be the secret weapon...not seriously saying his presence to close out games would be crucial. I'm fascinated by the direction this went.

On another note. I think it would be pretty sweet if guys like him can earn the coaches confidence enough to start mop up time sooner in the blowouts. That would get his minutes up in a small way and give us and his family/friends the chance to see him play more. I really appreciate our practice role players a lot because they are a significant part of the development of the rest of our team, and many times they are leaders in character and the mental game.

What are you thinking about joking when it comes to Shockers basketball...stop it NOW! Thanks...I'll hang up and listen.

                        • Coach does a lot of offensive and defensive subbing in close games, so the finishers could be up to 10 different players.

                          • I am just amazed at how 3G has amassed such a talented and deep inventory of players. The coaching staffs ability to manage such a quality rooster will be tested in a good way. If I were the coach (and I know 100% of SNers are glad I'm not) I would wake up several times a night with a migraine trying to imagine the dozens of potential lineups. I have been watching Shocker basketball since the early 70's. I can not remember a deeper and more talented rooster of players than this one. Granted, we haven't seen this team play yet, but all arrows point towards a special group of young men...GO SHOXS!!!

Maybe so, but are you surprised with this crew?
