Conner Frankamp scored a career-high 19 points and Markis McDuffie added 16 as No. 21 Wichita State beat Illinois State 71-51 in the MVC Tournament championship game Sunday, earning an automatic NCAA Tournament berth "I thought we played very well against a very good team," Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall said. "I thought it was a very thorough performance. We defended well. We made our free throws. We got the ball inside. We rebounded well. We shot it well. So that results in a 20-point win and that's hard to do against that team." The Shockers (30-4) have won 15 straight games since losing at Illinois State on Jan. 14. The Redbirds (27-6) had won eight straight games since losing at Wichita State on Feb. 4. With the win, Wichita State reached the 30-win mark for the fourth time in five seasons and solidified its standing as one of the top 25 teams in the nation heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Garrett Stutz had a game-high 19 points, including a key three-point play with 52.3 seconds left to lead Wichita State to a 73-63 win over Missouri State in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament Friday night. Clevin Hannah contributed 15 points for Wichita State (24-8), the No. 2 seed, which advances to Saturday's semifinals. The Shockers are looking to advance to the finals of the conference tournament for the first time since 1987. The Shockers made 24 of 25 free throws, including 15-of-15 in the final 6:12. Wichita State was clinging to a 62-61 lead when Hannah found Stutz underneath. He hit the bucket while being fouled by Mallett and converted the free throw to make it 65-61.
