  • Today in Shockers Sports History: February 24th

For the day, the Shockers are:
    14 and 12

    Regular Season (Games of Interest):
2018 – (#13) WSU Won at SMU in Dallas, Texas 84-78. Markis McDuffie is feeling good just weeks before March Madness. And that could be rough news for Wichita State's opponents. McDuffie scored a season-high 26 points off the bench, including nine during the first four minutes of the second half, to lead No. 13 Wichita State to an 84-78 win over SMU on Saturday. The Shockers (23-5, 13-3 American Athletic Conference) have won six straight games and are one-half game behind first-place Cincinnati. Wichita State will host Cincinnati on March 4 in the regular-season finale for both teams. McDuffie, a junior forward, led Wichita State in scoring last season but missed this season's first 11 games because of a stress fracture. He has primarily been a reserve since returning. "I feel like I'm back to myself now in terms of airing everything out and playing the game," McDuffie said.

    FEDERAL INVESTIGATION
Marshall said Wichita State would cooperate with the NCAA, the Department of Justice or any other entity involved with the investigation that former Wichita State star Fred VanVleet and his stepfather reportedly received money from an agent. "We try to get our guys to follow the rules, don't take anything from boosters, don't deal with agents until the season is over your senior year," Marshall said. "We have nothing to hide. I'll always say if, because it's got to be proven that he did this, then we'll take our hit, whatever it is, and we'll move on. No one in that locker room had anything to do with it. No coaches. No players." During the game, SMU fans chanted, "FBI! FBI!"

2016 – (#RV) WSU Won at Loyola in Chicago, Ill. 76-54. Ron Baker hit three 3-pointers and finished with 19 points and Anton Grady scored 17 on 5-of-7 shooting to lead Wichita State to a 76-54 win over Loyola of Chicago on Wednesday night. Baker scored seven during a 10-2 run to open the game and Wichita State never trailed. Grady made a pair of free throws to put the Shockers (22-7, 15-2 Missouri Valley Conference) up by 18 with 2:52 left in the first half before taking a 37-27 lead into the break. Wichita State led by double figures throughout the second half. Wichita State made 23 of 27 (85 percent) foul shots while the Ramblers hit 13 of 21.

2009 – Beat Indiana State in Wichita 76-70. J.T. Durley scored 16 points, capped by a key layup off a behind-the-back pass from Toure Murry, to lead Wichita State over Indiana State 76-70 on Tuesday night. The Shockers (15-14, 8-9 Missouri Valley) also got 12 points each from A.J. Hawkins and Clevin Hannah as they won their eighth straight at home. Indiana State (8-20, 6-11) was led by Jay Tunnell's game-high 22 points while Rashad Reed added 19. The Sycamores lost despite going 28-of-34 from the free-throw line. After leading by 10 four times in the second half, Wichita State saw its lead drop to 64-60 with 3:06 remaining. But Hawkins and Durley had key shots as the Shockers kept Indiana State from getting within five points again.

1987 – Beat Chicago State in Wichita 78-67

    1983 – (#12) WSU Beat Creighton in Wichita 81-71

1973 – Won at Loyola (Chicago) in Chicago, Ill. 100-89 (OT)

    1958 – Beat Houston in Wichita 82-65

1954 – (#15) WSU Won at (#5) Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. 67-66

1928 – Beat Southwestern (KS) in Wichita 31-21

1925 – Beat Friends in Wichita (Fairmount) 39-26
