For the day, the Shockers are:
21 and 9
Regular Season (Games of Interest):
2015 – (#13) WSU Beat Evansville in Wichita 62-43. With his team struggling on offense, Wichita State point guard Fred VanVleet took over. "Our offense was stagnant, but it wasn't because of mistakes," VanVleet said. "We were getting good-looks, but the shots weren't falling. We missed bunnies. Mine were going in. Indeed, VanVleet scored 18 of his 22 points in a decisive first half as No. 13 Wichita State coasted past Evansville 62-43 on Sunday. Ron Baker had 18 points and 15 rebounds for Wichita State (25-3, 15-1 Missouri Valley). Evan Wessel added 11 points for the Shockers, who have led for 32 or more minutes in 12 of their 13 games. When the Shockers had the ball in the final seconds, VanVleet's teammates just stayed out of the way. His step- back 16-footer settled in the basket as the buzzer sounded. VanVleet had 18 points, and Wichita State had a 30-14 halftime lead. "Fred's a dynamite competitor, and it showed," Shockers coach Gregg Marshall said. VanVleet's shooting made the headlines Sunday, but he made history another way. With a no-look pass to Rashard Kelly in the second half, VanVleet's fifth assist of the game, the junior guard became Wichita State's career leader in assists with 431. He passed Warren Armstrong (429 from 1965-68) and Toure Murry (430 from 2008-12) during the game.
2014 – (#3) WSU Beat Drake in Wichita 83-54. Wichita State went to the Final Four last year, yet there was something missing for that team: a Missouri Valley Conference championship. This season the Shockers were focused on not letting that happen. So, after No. 3 Wichita State routed Drake 83-54 Saturday night behind Tekele Cotton's 21 points and Darius Carter's 15, the Shockers relished cutting down the nets to celebrate a conference title that seemed like a foregone conclusion some time ago. "It means a lot, it really does," said point guard Fred VanVleet, who had 15 points and six assists. "It's something we didn't do last year. It's special, and we appreciate it. But, at the same time, we have more goals ahead of us." Wichita State (29-0, 16-0 Missouri Valley) is the first team to start 29-0 since Illinois in 2004-05 and is two wins away from a perfect regular season. The Shockers cruised despite leading scorer Cleanthony Early being held to a season-low three points and Ron Baker only scoring six, less than half his season average
2012 – (#19) WSU Won at Illinois State in Normal, Ill. 68-55. A few minutes after his 19th-ranked Shockers beat Illinois State 68-55 on Wednesday night, Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall entered the postgame interview session clutching his smartphone. The phone played a continuous melody of sounds from the non-stop text messages he was receiving from well-wishers congratulating him and his team on clinching outright the regular-season Missouri Valley Conference title with the win over the Redbirds. "I got a bunch (of messages), I'll put it on silent, sorry," Marshall said. Joe Ragland led the way for the Shockers, scoring 14 points. The 6-foot guard, one of four senior starters, had four 3-pointers for Wichita State (25-4, 15-2), which made 10 of 23 shots from beyond the arc against the Redbirds (17-12, 8-9)
2006 – Won at Drake in Des Moines, Iowa 60-58. Paul Miller's tip-in with 3 seconds left helped Wichita State defeat Drake 60-58 Wednesday, assuring the Shockers at least a share of the Missouri Valley Conference title. Wichita State (22-7, 13-4 MVC) rallied from a late deficit and notched its seventh straight win over Drake (12-17, 5-12). Miller led the Shockers with 14 points. Sean Ogirri scored 13 and Kyle Wilson added 11. The Bulldogs had a 58-55 lead with 1:22 after Ajay Calvin banked in a 3-pointer, but Wichita State's Karon Bradley answered with his only 3 of the game with 57 seconds left. Drake's Al Stewart missed a wide-open layup with 10 seconds left that would have regained the lead. Miller tipped in a missed basket by P.J Couisnard, and Drake's attempt to tie the game in the final seconds faltered after a long pass was intercepted by Kyle Wilson
