  • Weber open to playing the Valley- well sorta

Weber said he might also be open to playing teams from the Missouri Valley Conference, including Wichita State.[/FONT]
“It’s a hard game, obviously,” Weber said. “When I was at Southern Illinois I wanted everyone to play us, but when you’re at Illinois or at K-State it’s a tough game to play. It’s something that we will consider as we get established with our schedules and the program.”

Dont know if this was posted but I read with a bit of a o'brother attached:moon:
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

At best the original Weber quote is politely noncommittal.

This guy is ridiculous and should know better. Losing to any Valley team 1-5 (maybe 6, not sure) is not going to hurt you as far NCAA tournament resumes go. Outside of that I'm sure he would face some criticism from idiots but any real college basketball fan knows the Valley has some salty teams.

He's forgotten to remember where he came from. Or maybe he remembers just fine but is scared.

With K-State playing Gonzaga, KU playing Temple, WSU playing Tennessee and possibly Alabama, it really highlights the sillinees of KU and KSU not playing WSU.

I thought Alabama was a done deal. Is it not?

I just shared a link over on the baseball board. It's an Eagle article talking about how a Republican in Topeka merely tossed the idea in the air to sell the KU medical facilities in Wichita and KC. In response to this another Rep. responded back "
"To jeopardize that would make no sense," he said. "It would make about as much sense to sell the WSU baseball team."... SO.. Why did i post this on the basketball board some might ask. There is obviously some kind of silliness going on as to why KU and KSU won't play WSU in basketball. They sure don't mind playing WSU in baseball. And of all things people up in Topeka would talk about selling off at WSU, why the baseball team? WSU basketball gets ignored by KU and KSU and i'm starting to believe it's purely political. As much as law makers up in Topeka claim to not stick their noses in the college sports business, I believe they do.

I used to get worked up about them not playing us but it has reached the point of I really don't care if either one of them ever plays us again. I just choose to ignore that there are any other institutions in this state that exist.

                  Hypocrites. Funny. Hypocrites.

Why is it that we want to play BCS teams so badly? Why aren't we happy with who is already on our schedule (excepting the BCS teams that we already have)?

As long as we're able to put together a strong schedule that gives us a chance at an at large bid I could care less who we play. Sure, playing KU and KSU would make a whole lot of sense the state of Kansas and would probably make scheduling much easier for WSU.

But the way things look now were just fine without eithe of those teams on the schedule. And that's a good feeling.

Yeah, hypocrites abound in the NCAA. Weber fell right in.

Because as much as it sucks, a majority of the basketball world only shows respect to mid major teams based on which BCS schools they beat... it bites, but it's how basketball is right now.

It just seems funny to me how many on here raise their noses at a schedule just full of mid majors and yet still wonder why the BCS teams don't like scheduling them.

I haven't seen anyone complain about playing mid majors. Who is upset that VCU, for instance, is on the schedule? People do complain about too many low majors being on the schedule, but there is a world of difference between playing a top 150 RPI team (whether BCS or mid major) and playing a 250+ RPI low major.

I believe many on here have advocated for a schedule full of mid-majors as opposed to holding out hope for a home and home with a BcS team only to get an Alcorn State or Newman. It's all about scheduling Top 150 or at least 200 teams no matter how sexy the name is.
