  • Today in Shockers Sports History: February 10th

For the day, the Shockers are:
    12 and 18

    Regular Season (Games of Interest):
2021 – Won at UCF in Orlando, Florida 61-60. Alterique Gilbert scored 17 points including Wichita State's last five points, leading the Shockers to a 61-60 win over Central Florida on Wednesday night. Trey Wade made a dunk with 2:12 left that gave the Shockers the lead for good. Gilbert hit a 3-pointer and made two free throws in the final 33 seconds. Dexter Dennis added 16 points and 10 rebounds for Wichita State (12-4, 8-2 American Athletic Conference), which won its fourth consecutive game. Morris Udeze had 12 points. Wade finished with five points and five rebounds. After leading 36-30 at halftime, Wichita State managed to hang on for the 1-point victory despite being outscored by five points in the second half. The Shockers’ 25 second-half points marked a season low for the team.

2018 – (#22) WSU Beat UConn in Wichita 95-74. As Wichita State senior Rashard Kelly stood with the ball in the opening minutes, the result of a second offensive rebound on the possession, a sold-out crowd rose to its feet and thundered applause. The fans appreciated the effort, and both coaches pointed to that situation and ones like it after No. 22 Wichita State cruised past UConn 95-74 on Saturday. "That set the tone, the energy you bring out on the floor," Shockers coach Gregg Marshall said. "You know, it's all rah rah in the locker room, but it's about the intensity you actually bring out on the court. Rashard did that." The Shockers (19-5, 9-3 American Athletic Conference) had 17 assists and just two turnovers while building a 55-33 halftime lead. UConn (12-13, 5-7 American) never threatened after that and was outrebounded 40-24.

2009 – Beat Missouri State in Wichita 62-61. Toure Murry swished a 3-pointer with 5.1 seconds remaining to lift Wichita State over Missouri State 62-61 on Tuesday night. J.T. Durley's jumper with 2;17 remaining brought the Shockers within 58-57. Chris Cooks (MSU) hit one of two free throws with 19.6 seconds to go and J.T. Durley grabbed the rebound, leading to Murry's game-winning 3-pointer. Missouri State (10-15, 3-11) had a chance to win, but Spencer Laurie's contested layup hit the rim and fell off as time expired. The Shocker's freshman guard finished with a game-high 23 points. Durley added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Wichita State (12-13, 6-8).

2005 – Won at Illinois State in Normal, Ill. 76-62

1998 – Won at Bradley in Peoria, Ill. 57-52

1997 – Won at Drake in Des Moines, Iowa 65-55

1990 – Won at Drake in Des Moines, Iowa 68-62

    1979 – Beat Creighton in Wichita 89-83

    1920 – Beat St. John’s (KS) in Wichita 37-15

1910 – Beat Winfield YMCA in Wichita 36-24

Now that is how you coach during a time out. I know Brown coached with Marshall many years and should already know. But brown needs to watch Marshall during that time out and be reminded of a few things.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

That was my thought watching this. My other thought was how the fans were filling the seats in a year that was as poor record wise as this year. So the show must have been much better than this year's show.
