Probably IB's best chance to bolster his resume.
Looking at the schedule, they have UCF and SMU at home.
Then life gets really tough.

Go to Temple - ugh.
Then home for Memphis... it never works out well against them.
Then at Tulane and then...go to Houston.
Finally home against USF - who has been playing better as of late.

I only see 3, maybe 4 'W's' (if they beat UCF) out of that line up.

That's a 14-15 win season and most likely a 7th place finish.
Porter is gone. So is Rojas, who does a lot of dumb shiit, but playing better lately.
Poor Bear and Okafor also gonzo.

Who knows what happens with Walton and Pohto.

The optimism is basically just that Jaron Pierre and Jaykwon Walton can't transfer for free so they're a little more stuck here, hopefully Pohto, Ricks and Abidde stay another year so we can develop them further, remember we are a program who thrives on 3, 4 or 5 year guys who particularly are better later on as they develop into men. Then we have Colby Rogers who will be eligible next year who is a deadly shooter and then that freshman coming in that picked us over Mississippi State. That's about all I can do for optimism lmao.

Fair, I forget these guys can speed through a Communications degree in about 3 years now and get out as fast as they can. If we have to replace more than 5 or 6 guys then it'll become apparent we are never going to get the continuity season to season we need to be good again and it'll never work with him. I don't think we'll ever be great with IB but I do think we can be better than the last two years shows if we could just keep guys around.

So 14-15 wins (most of which were against SWAC and other low level D1's) and a 7th place league finish (plus a loss to Alcorn State) are good in your book and reason for future optimism?

I'm not 100% sure that this is true. The NCAA still considers him a 4-2-4 transfer. 4-2-4-4 transfers have their own guidelines for transferring.

I've done some reading on this rule. With all the new waiver and waiver exception rules, it appears that the NCAA now considers 4-2-4 transfers in the same category as 4-4 transfers. The exception is if they transfers back to their original school or if their original school discontinued the sport. I am fairly certain that Walton will have to sit if he transfers again.
